    Is boxing too safe?

We all know boxing is a dangerous sport - it is the main reason we watch it. But I am thinking that it has become too safe. With the extra medical attention at venues and pre weigh-in weigh-ins since the McClellan and Watson injuries, it just seems too safe to me. Sure there is a chance someone might get badly hurt, but it's a lot smaller than before. A bit like motor racing - with all the safety improvements, the risk is minimized.

Now I know it would be irresponsible to remove these safety measures, but one thing I'd like to see is referees not being so quick to stop fights. If the fighter can stand, let the fight continue.

Some stoppages are too early but boxing does not need to go back into these times.

Yeah,, Sometimes Fights are stopped too soon...

But at the end of the day.. It's not a fight till the death.. and I would like it to stay that way..

The threat is minimized so they are at their best in ring where it counts. Yes the pre-weigh in weigh in's help not to have an injury, and they that fight is now not advertised, and it could be what it should of been

If they can stand let em fight.

Yeah there are some questionable stoppages, but in the end it's better than some fighters getting hurt. I would rather see one of my favorite fighters or really any fighter be able to come back and fight another day instead of their careers ending in one night.

I can see your point - I don't agree with it, but I can see it. If a boxer can stand he should be allowed to fight. I think this would put the 'danger' back into boxing and make it more appealing to fans.

I understand where your coming from, but even if a guy is standing it doesn't mean that he isn't seriously hurt. A lot of the boxers that die from being in the ring are the ones that keep standing up and take a ton of shots.

Im also wondering if a guy is standing, but he's on shaky feet and practically out of it, do you think he should still be able to fight? Or do you mean a guy that's standing on stable feet?

                  It's not safe enough, IMO.

Far too many fighters are boiling themselves down dangerously to make weight. Should be stopped, or limited.

Anyone who's standing. The refs job should be to help them to their feet before the count of 10. If they are still standing then box on. As you say yourself - these are the ones who get seriously hurt. It's what the fans want to see.
