Was Jeff "LOL" Lacy exposed?

It is quite clear that this thread is intended to bolster a Calzaghe opponent in hope of bolstering Joe Calzaghe.I kind of say "no", actually.
Even though I didn't expect him to be on the receiving end of one of the all-time great one-sided ass pwnages, I expected him to lose.
I love how it's perfectly excusable (apparently) for people to have been drawn into the hype, but watching a guy so muscular he could hardly move take about half an hour to throw a punch, be wide open, have ****ty footwork and spend half of his time missing (all the time with clearly overrated, albeit considerable, punch power) then I wasn't sold. I think anyone with EYES could see that he was waiting to be outboxed by the first decent boxer he came across, but when I said this at the time I was just a "homer" (even though I'm not Welsh.
)
At the time 95% of NSB were so certain that Lacy would win that serious discussion wasn't even allowed... it was all "pwn" this and "pwn" that. It was so funny that I'm still laughing.... hence this thread.
Joe Calzaghe needs no bolstering. He is who he is: An extremely gifted fighter who remains undefeated through twenty-something title defenses. He has faced both good and bad competition and has looked impressive if not legendary against both.
What Joe Calzaghe is not is a fighter who has made big fights happen against the world's best. He has not fought the biggest names or taken the toughest challenges. He has never made a sacrifice to make a big fight. He has never moved an ounce off of 168 or travelled outside of the UK (sans one fight against Mario Veit in Germany, which was part of an agreement in which Calzaghe was allowed a fight in the UK).
In boxing we have no Super Bowl. The competition and the career that results from it is largely up to the boxer himself. Calzaghe has fought capable fighters. He has not fought extraordinary ones.Comment

This guy has too much heart, and math.. that won't get you anywhere on bs. You better hope you don't get pwned by someoneIt is quite clear that this thread is intended to bolster a Calzaghe opponent in hope of bolstering Joe Calzaghe.

Yes and no. Lacy was being hyped as the next great American Champ. Appearing in commercials, getting backed by the media, etc. But he turned out to be a good prizefighter who cant hang with the elite. So he was exposed in that sense.
He has gone down hill ever since. He's just not the same fighter, and depending on how you look at it, could have him 0-3 in his last three.Comment

He wasn't exceptional, and hampered by injuries his momentum and ultimately potential was and will never be reached. Grant Hill probably would have recieved a couple MVP awards had he not spent some of his best years recovering.Yes and no. Lacy was being hyped as the next great American Champ. No, he wasn't "exposed". I hate that term. Lacy was pretty good before the JC fight, then he was ruined and hasn't been the same since. It's not so much about Jeff being a bad fighter, but more to do with Joe being on a completely different level to almost everyone he fights.Comment

Lacy was exposed for not knowing how to box and being one dimensional. Dan Birmingham should have had Lacy sparing with Winky or Chad Dawson to prepare him better. ANY top pure boxer would have had their way with Lacy and when you look back, the fighters that Lacy beat was either mediocre or past their prime. He was over hyped by show time badly.Comment

I would say he was a little overrated, and this coming from one of his biggest fans.
That being said before the joe fight he was superb to watch and entertained everyone. If only he wouldhave won the calzaghe, he would have been great for boxing and gave american fans a reason to watch the smw division.Comment

I don't think he was "exposed". Calzaghe is a great fighter.....An undefeated fighter. Lacy was overrated no doubt about it but I still think he beats most guys out there when and if he ever gets his **** together. Injuries and inactivity have haunted him since the Calzaghe fight......Lets not forget he was the most active titleholder around pre-Calzaghe. He fought like 5 times in 13 months leading up to the Calzaghe fight.....
I still have faith he can make one last run but it's dwindling fast.......Comment
