Could Mayweather have handled a prime Sweet Pea?

Im watchin some old "Sweet Pea" fights, and I cant help but eep askin if Mayweather could have beat Whitaker in his prime. Pernell had it all speed for starters, but also one of the gretes devensive boxers ever. During his prime he was rarely hit with a solid punch because of his many shoulder rolls. A lot like this prime Floyd Mayweather, both men had all the tools and knew exactly how to utilize them in the ring.

Yeah I think he could have.

He's big enough to get Whitaker's respect to begin with. Not to mention he's always in great shape and stays on top of his gameplan in the ring.

Really what else is there besides the obvious. Both guys fight/fought in the shell type defense and would be happy with throwing 1 punch at a time following up every once in a while. It would make a boring fight for sure.

But also keep in mind Floyd can be pretty aggressive at times lol. Pea had fights where he was pretty rough, but Floyd I'd say definitely has more punching power and maybe even as good or better of timing on his punches.

Nobody would get knocked out in this fight is what I'd say.

The fight woulda been a boring chess match but either guy could decision the other by a close margin.

Mayweather would probably stand a chance with any person his weight since Ray Leonard was around

He'd have a chance but I think Whitaker would have beaten him by decision.

He could have kept it close, but I doubt he could pull out the win.

I think its a bad matchup for Mayweather since he seems to have some trouble with boxers, and in addition, Whitaker is just a great fighter. Mayweather would lose a decision I'd say.

Mayweather has trouble with southpaws, Whitaker is arguably the best southpaw of all time.

Yeah that too. Add up all that and Whitaker gets the W.

In short? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

My ***** Whitaker puts on a clinic as usual.

119 - 109...well maybe not that bad, but you get the idea.
