How high do you rate Castillo at lightweight?

He had a pretty ****ing good stint at that weight IMO...

    Wins over
    Stevie Johnston I
    Cesar Bazan
    Juan Lazcano
    Joel Casamayor
    Julio Diaz

Losses that could have gone the other way
    Diego Corrales I
    Floyd Mayweather Jr. I

A draw with Stevie Johnston in the rematch
A close loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the rematch

Seriously, that is not a bad resume. If he had a win over Acelino Freitas at that weight, that would be an extremely impressive resume IMO.

Jose Luis Castillo was a truly great Lightweight. Thats a fact. Especially when u consider that Mayweather is considered one of the best and many, including myself, thought he beat Mayweather in that first go round

Johnston won the rematch pretty clearly imo.

What is funny is that Juan Lazcano was the favorite when they fought, and Castillo put a horrific pasting on him. Castillo was a great lightweight, unfortunately it wasn't until the Lazcano fight that he was properly marketed and put in the fights he needed to be in.

BTW, I have no idea how people can say the Casamayor fight was too close to call. I thought Castillo won that fight going away.

Do you think he could be considered up there with someone like Shane Mosley?

By the way, I was thinking to myself, you have had a Kelly Pavlik avatar for so long, that if I ever met you, I think I would seriously be shocked if you didn't look like Kelly Pavlik.

I haven't seen Castillo-Casamayor, nor the Johnston rematch that ended in a draw. I just have heard a lot of people say that until Santa Cruz, there was a very good argument that could be made for Casamayor being undefeated.

On a skill level, no. Castillo did have a much better career at 135, beating guys like Johnston, Casamayor, competing closely with Mayweather. Mosley's lightweight career has holes in it because he never fought Nazarov or Johnston.

I'm pretty envious... seriously. It would be ****ing sweet to meet some of the dudes you meet.

I also get the feeling that Vernon seems to have a better head on his shoulders than most athletes. He seems very articulate, and actually pretty intelligent in his interviews. He also has a good enough heart to give back to the world by opening that Destiny's Child Inc.

Good guy. Truly one of the athletes in the world to be admired.

That's the answer I was expecting.
