Joe Louis is the best heavyweight of all-time IMO. And yes, head-to-head, era-for-era, he is the best IMO.

i hate when people say ali was overrated. the dude was incredible. such a big impact on the sport and society as a whole. but truly one of the greatest and smartest (boxing smarts) champions of all time. amazing, amazing athlete.

and the exact same thing should be said about joe louis.

bottom line, you can't definitively say that louis was better than ali, or vice versa.
