How Come the Only Time BOXING gets mentioned in the Media its something negative?

I remember when brian viloria fought on an undercard and almost killed some fighter it was on the front page of the sports section of the LA times...and when Levander johnson died.

or in the news its always about Tyson his court date, or his drug problems.

or with Oscar when he wore fishnet stalkings it got front page in a local paper here...and tons of media coverage.

while other sports they get positive coverage its a shame to be honest, I guess they really want Boxing to die.

The media disrespects boxing because the sport's stakeholders administer the sport like a third world government. Most people in the media cannot respect a sport that allow its champions to avoid fighting serious contenders for bogus reasons.

In other American sports, a team or individual wants to prove they are best by beating all serious contenders and leave no doubt in the mind of the media or the fans that they are best. In boxing, many fighters Floyd is best example are okay with being considered the best because the media or the fans believe they can beat all of the the contenders and have no desire to prove they are the best by beating all of their serious contenders.

                true

i remember boxing used to be about fighting the best. Ali fought the best, ray robinson, duran, hagler...i think this all begun with Sugar Ray Leonard...he might of fought great guys but he kicked off the avoiding style like when he ignored aaron pryor he was like the first golden boy.

A lot of it is boxings own fault. The lack of a recognised world champion in each division, the view that it is corrupt and controlled by people like Don King, as well as several other things.

The media is very sensationalistic these days. They'd rather report that a sportsperson has done something bad in their private life rather than done 100 good things in their professional career.

It's probably the same for fansof other sports; the Kobe **** allegation received a lot of press coverage. The Barry Bonds steroid issue and the Kobe case got reported here in the UK, even though those sports get virtually zero attention usually.

boxing is way more dangerous so it isnt just the signing of the contract and fight

the strain of training intense day after day is also more rigorous

1 loss means too much nowadays in boxing also

its like 1 and your done
