IMO Robinson is the greatest of all time but Duran is certainly a p4p great. He had some losses (most of them above his natural weightclass though) but his great wins more than make up for that.

Duran was one of the greatest lightweights of all time, went up in weight, beat one of the greatest WW's of all time, went up in weight and went 15 rounds with one of the greatest middleweights of all time AND won 4 titles in different weight classes (LW, WW, LMW, MW). Incredible fighter.

Man Duran really was a freak, Robinson was just light years ahead of everyone with his skill set.

i was always of the same opinion. old timers treated boxing as their job, woke up got to training, never complained and always fought each other to determine who was the best. nowadays modern athletes get motivated for 30 mill, if guys like mayweather dont get that number they just go fighting in the circus. you see alotta young prospects who should be fighting at least once a month, go in the ring, fight, and go away to rest for another 3-4 months. it's ridicolous. fighters today dont stay by the same principles of their predecessors. they are breaking the code. we have some talented boxers out there, but something is always missing.

when ray robinson got beat by jake lamotta he was a welterweight fighting a tough durable middleweight. ray didnt make any excuses, just 2 weeks later he came back and beat lamotta, and continued to beat him 4 more times after that. for some young fighters a loss could have been devastating, a huge mental setback, it didnt phase ray.

you just dont get the same attitude from fighters today.

i often wonder though how their meeting would have played out at 147 neighbourhood. at 160 carmen basilio beat a faded robinson, but there was a blue print to fighting him. applying pressure, and duran was the best at that. until ray figured him out gene fullmer also was succesful with his bull rushing tactics. and duran was smart too, this fight wouldnt be one sided

Duran was a freakin beast. Best lightweight ever I've seen. I don't know if my man Pernell could have taken him. Pernell would have had a fit with him.

Duran was ok but Casamayor has way too much speed and elusivness for Duran.
