It's baffling because before the Lacy and Kessler fights, I was constantly trying to defend Calzaghe on these forums and big him up, but Americans thought he was a joke

Now, suddenly he's God?? Someone please explain why.

    Kessler wasn't very good.

Hopkins must've already agreed to go over to the UK for the fight, if not there would never have been a contract drawn up and Calzaghe would've made a lot more money if the fight was in the UK at that time.

Lacy was too slow and Kessler was too stiff, Hopkins will reduce the output on movement alone. I really hope 43-year-old Bernard pulls it off
lol hes right about u either u dont follow boxing or ur a 12 year old kid lol lmao.
Joe was only known in europe not the states but so what u got worser champs that just dont leave there home country like germans! joe deserves the credit because he cleaned out the division and he would of had a easier time doing it when he was younger because he had alot of power then but his hands made him change his style putting less power into his punches now.
To be honest he would of lost to roy jones but he would of put up a great fight because of his style and plus the fact roy jones hates southpaws e.g. tarver :P i mean if joe was rearly ducking people he would of fought roy "shot" jones already but hes been going after the younger boys.
Hes not only a gd boxer but hes got a exciting style thats proberly why americans like him now and just because hes been fighting in europe for 10 years doesnt mean that hes purposely been stayin there.
He wanted to fight bhop years ago but bhop came out of the fight just to fight sum1 for less money hmm.
It is true about his resume the best names are oscar and trinidad but dont get me wrong hes stil a great fighter but joe has eubank, kessler and lacey 3 great fighters.
If a guy cleans out his division then there should be no one saying hes overrated at all hes the best super middlewieght in the world at the moment fact so stop talking about 10 years ago newbie.

In 2002, neither Bernard nor Calzaghe would have sold any tickets in America. What's the point of fighting over there if nobody gives a f**k? Anyway, we don't know the details of the contract. Joe always said, going back to the late 90's, that he'd fight Hopkins anywhere including his own back garden.

He wasn't well-known in Britain, let alone Europe.

Going back to the late 90s? I doubt he knew who Hopkins was before the Trinidad fight.

And no, he wasn't prepared to leave Britain.

I don't believe that for a second, he would have made far more money if that fight was in the states.

When you boil down to it, the fact of the matter is, is that Frank Warren didn't want to send his prize fighter over to the states to fight the prime fighters because he thought he would get beat!

I don't know how anyone could argue that!

You don't know anything about Joe, do you? He's been talking about a fight with Hopkins for ten years. At least. Watch his old fights. Watch the post-fight interviews.
