Brian Vera Wrecks Andy Lee’s American Showcase

    By Cliff Rold

The highly touted US TV debut of Ireland’s Andy Lee (15-1, 12 KO) ended in disaster, and a hint of controversy, on Friday night at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. In an early contender for Upset of the Year, the 2004 Olympian Lee fell to the effects of too many right hands from Contender Season Three alum Brian Vera (16-1, 10 KO), saved by the referee at 2:17 of the seventh round. I think Cliff is right Lee is not done, but it's back to the drawing board for him. Maybe this something he needed to make him better.

That would make it like the seventh year of the upset in the last eight years. Maybe it just means no one really knows ****.

Lee isn't done. He does have to work on his defense and apparently his stamina. I haven't seen the fight yet but after the Falliga fight, I said he was getting hit too much and it seems to have caught up with him now.

What upsets have happend so far.. Refresh my memory, i'm thinking of earlier fights this year like Jones, Povetkin, Vazquez, Pac, pavlik, klitchko, peter all favs that won..

Besides tonight the only one that comes to mind is Diaz going down.

Falliga was landing those wide looping punches. Vera did the same thing, the difference was he was more persistent.

I guess it depends who you ask, if you ask me, Pac and Pavlik were both upsets also. IMO
