It is not fair and Winky is a much more capable fighter than Duddy. Duddy though, fights often and has a huge following. He is also a gutsy SOB that is guaranteed to bring an exciting fight with him, even if it is a short one.
Duddy has a solid Irish fan base and would do well with a live-gate audience...but I still feel like they'd throw Wright-Pavlik on PPV, it'd sell decently- not great by any means- but still net the fighters more money; and all we're talking about here is who gives Kelly the most cash.

It would be a huge financial loss for them. Pavlik and Winky do not have PPV star power.

Pavlik is on the rise, but has a long way to go. After a couple more defenses he might be there, but even his highly anticipated Taylor rematch was basically a PPV failure.

Arum even said no more PPV's for Pavlik this year. He used the reasoning as he wanted Kelly to reach the masses. What he really meant is he needs kelly to gain popularity because if he could sell Pavlik PPV's, you know damn well he would!hehe

Some of his fights are boring, and it seems to be dependent on the style of the fighter he is facing.

He tends to open up against power punches (go figure, right?) like Taylor, Vargas and Trinidad to an extent. If Trinidad had been more game that night, it probably would have been more exciting, but if Winky was killing him by doing almost nothing with the jab, then why do anything else?

He tends to put on unpleasing performances against volume punchers like Candelo, Hernandez and Soliman. He blocks a lot of the shots, and throws enough of counterpunches to win the rounds.

His fights with Mosley were good, but I can't explain that stylistically.
yeah the mosley fights were bad for shane. he did what he could but at the end of the night winky was the bigger guy, and mosley's history shows that it would always suggest a bad match up, as he had a few with vernon forrest. the only difference being is that forrest is a big puncher and more physically engaged. winky just used his size and boxed, shane was going for big shots, throwing those big right hands, and winky was picking them off. and that southpaw stance doesnt help either.

winky's face looked swollen after the soliman fight. sam threw those pity pat punches the whole night, winky was blocking them good, but his face was pretty bruised.

but winky is a boxer, and in the trinidad fight that jab was bread and butter, i dont think that trinidad was in the fight even for a minute. that's another guy who shouldnt get close to PPV again. i heard arum is blowing smoke up the ass about pavlik fighting him.........if that happens, then it will be the last that we would see of trinidad imo.

arum, and kelly himself stated that they want a few defences in his hometown in youngstown Ohio. giving back to the community, and not on hbo either, arum wants abc, but i dont see it. it's not a decade of free network tv showcasing world champions anymore. gone are the 70s

As bad as it is, Trinidad is still a star and has a huge following. It has diminished, but he is still fills seats even on PPV. His fight with RJJ was a success and sold well. I can see Arum's motivation for getting Pavlik to fight him as it would not only sell well, but help Pavlik reach a wider audiance.

he might have been a star, but after the jones fight i think it erased any hopes, at least for me. with trinidad's attitude i dont see how he can fool people anymore, by showing up overweight, underconditioned, with his year round layoffs. he's a name, yes, but whenever there's a PPV, there needs to be a competitive mix, trinidasd dont got it no more. for the past 4 or 5 years he went 2-3. tito will not get away with that anymore. he's not a PPV caliber anymore.

He looks at Kelly as a long term investment. A heartland boy next door success story. Arum thinks he can turn pavlik into a huge star. Trust me on this though if he thought he could throw Kelly on PPV right now and make more money, he would. He is just trying to build pavlik's fan base to make the PPV events an easy sell.

It really has nothing about giving back, it is about accepting smaller returns for now in the hope that they return bigger dividends later on.

To you and me I agree. To Puerto Rican's, he will still have manic fans willing to dish out money to see him. Even casual fans still know the nick Tito. Once you sell yourself to the masses, and you have a star following, you generally keep it.

that's every promoter's tactic. arum's got a young white fighter, and every promoter runs a race card. image play an improtant role, that's how you create fan base. i think that kelly is a star but he has also growth potential. when de la hoya, who incidentally was promoted by arum in the past, smelled money he went on PPV rampage and hasnt gotten off since, his fight with forbes will be the first hbo fight in what 7-8 years, and thats just a build up for rematch with JUnior. they're all money sharks in this business.
