Joe C does have a padded record but he also has some decent win under his belt, The problem is the man is 35 yrs old..He was 25/26 when he finally stepped up against a then fading Chris eubank, He fought decent fighters like Byron Mitchell, Charles brewer and a prime Reid but until lately he didnt do himself justice with his level of opposition (Lacy and Kessler has helped that a great deal though).

People tend to assume if they don't know you you probably aren't good. So if you don't come to America they probably haven't seen you fight and don't recognize the names on your resume so automatically they ASSume you aren't all that good. It's just ignorant, they don't know any better but they end up finding out.

joe does have a dubious record on paper.

but i think he's the real deal, and certain fights prove it.

As for haye being regarded as a prospect, thats in the heavyweight division, in which he is a prospect.

It seems to me that as a result of last weekend most of america has sat up and taken notice of david, who is also the real deal.

People know the best fighters fight in the states, so if they see someone hasnt fought over here there has to be a reason. And when the fighters want to prove otherwise, they come over here and get a lesson a la Ricky Hatton, so what do you expect. To be the best you have to beat the best, and the best fight here, simple as that in my eyes.

Is it not true? Im not saying they cant fight, but if theyre legit they fight in the states. Kostya fought here, Lennox fought here, Hamed, and Ricky even fought here because they all know the best fighters fight in the states and if you want to be recognized as the best, its just something you have to do. Others such as Calzaghe has done all he can to stay away from the states but its good to see he has realized what he has to do, and lets see what he does with his oppertunity.

                  To be fair.

When you have Calzaghe attracting 30,000 to watch him beat up a bum in Manfredo, you have to question the validity of America is where it's at.

                  As a spectacle. It varies.

Take Joe Calzaghe, who succesfully defended his title 20 odd times over 10 years and has not lost for 17 years (in the amateurs) but most considered him to be protected etc just cause he has not defended his WORLD title in AMERICA?

Like when AMERICA took Alis WORLD title away?

Why does AMERICA think it has the ****ing rule over all of the WORLD boxing? Fair enough, its big has big arenas an the big fights etc but to say a champ is only good if he has fought there if ****ing ******.

I will admitt that it you ALWAYS get gift decisions by not leaving a place (Sven Ottke) then OK but Calzaghe has deserved all his wins so did Hatton etc

I can admitt they did not fight top elite fighters in their prime and best possible position but they fought good fighters while America seems to be basing resumes on names not fighters. Rant over. My opinion, say what you want.
European fighters are carefuly matched. Don't make experts (i'm not a top dog on that matter) have to come here again telling you about the carefully chosen opponents. Yeah everyone does that today but when fighters are young they shouldn't. Take Floyd Mayweather Jr. for example (i could give you two or three more good ones) when Floyd was 23 he was fighting P4P killer Diego "Chico" Corrales, what was the likes of Calzaghe, Haye, Lacy or Kessler doing at that age? BUILDING UP ****ING FAKE RECORDS. They only start getting half good opponents when they are almost 30 years old! How the **** can you respect that? That's killing boxing as a competitive sport, think about it, how can you cope with that? Even then their opponents are carefully chosen (old, stiff, good matchup) and hyped up so they too look great before the fight, so the weak champion can be a hero (like the firefighter who starts a fire so he gets there first and looks good in the newspapers) so they climb the same ladder the top Americans climb, only AT A VERY SLOW PACE, big difference right there. Oh and when they lose
/have a bad winning performance they immediately coward up and go down in weight/competition only to start again that painfully slow climb. The end result is we ending up with VERY WEAK CHAMPIONS who will lose badly to the first quality fighter they face.
The reason this is happening is purely commercial. Boxing promoters realized they make allot more money if they put someone who looks like Bruce Willies or Sly in the ring rather than someone who's less marketable even if he's a somewhat better fighter. The newbie will get a chance to slowly build up his career while the less marketable guy will sooner than later be forced to take a much more experienced guy which will make him lose. After getting this loss he will find it even harder to have a good career and eventually will be a stepping stone or a can. Of course hugely talented guys make it anyway and complete bums can't get to the top even if they are on this privilege program.
