Bernard is too old.. he threw about 10 punches a round when he lost to jermaine taylor.. and that was 2 years ago. If you want to pretend he is no longer his former self.. that's fine, but plse don't ***** about people who acknowledge reality.

Well I Want hopkins to win...

But if he loses .. then he just loses... He's the one fighting at this age.. So its not really an excuse to be made... No one is making him box Calzhage the younger.. more active champion....Hopkins still looks good and can beat alot of names out there...So why not fight till someone shows you its time?

No shame in continuing.. even though i really want him to win i think maybe he bit a lil more than eh could chew on this one.. to be totally honest.

I want him to win.. But if he loses.. then thats just it.. and retire I would say.

How about hopkins just wasn't active enough.. hopkinbs style is not good against calzghe..

I want hopkins to win.. but thats what I think.

Hopkins like to counter and not get hit.. but cal-man throws alot... and is sorta accurate.. and has a good chin as we've seen in the Kessler fight..

I really want hopkins to win.. but I really dont see his style beating Cal-man.. Though I'll be VERY happy if he does.. i just don't see it 100%... more like 30 % chance of him winning.

yes he's way past it.. that's goes directly with saying he's too old.. he's also not very active, his workrate is in decline.. this is all true. This is why Calzaghe beating him doesn't mean much. It's a good introduction for him to the states.

They shouldn't have to wait after the fight is over to make excuses on why the guy they picked to win lost.
Your absolutely right about that. You can't say he's too old after the fact. I think it's ****** to even be **** talking that Hopkins will win at the age he's at. I'm a big Hopkins fan, but I know his time has come and gone. He may still be a decent fighter, and I hope he wins, but lets be realistic here. Calz is not only younger, but he's a pretty damn good fighter. Calz wins this fight easily on points, maybe even KO depending how old Hopkins looks. In their primes, I would bet on Hopkins.

I like Joe a lot. I think he should've gotten credit a lot sooner than he has. I think he's been very unlucky that (with the exception of Lacy) there has not been a high profile American super middleweight for a hell of a long time. It's been a pretty poor division for quite some time now, with quality fighters only appearing recently. It's not really fair on him that he would've had to go lower than his best weight or higher than his best weight to fight against big name opposition. I think it's a shame that US fighters can stay at home and fight other US fighters and be considered great but UK fighters cannot do the same thing without being criticised.

But Joe won the title 10 years ago. At that time he had two choices: 1. Stay in the UK or 2. Go to America and chase the big names. Picking 1 means that the average American will never rate you highly, even if you dominate the division for a decade. Picking 2 means more money and exposure in the US, and a better chance of securing a big fight and a legacy as an all time great.

Hatton was in a similar situation and built a profile in the US, then stepped up in weight to fight p4p#1 Mayweather. Calzaghe didn't. As a consequence even after looking bad against Mayweather, Hatton has probably been given more praise and earned more money than Calzaghe, even though IMO Calzaghe is a much better fighter.

I think Joe has been unlucky in several ways, but **** it, he should've gone to America when Roy Jones was considered p4p #1 and fought him. If Joe had publicly offered to take a **** amount of money for the fight then Jones would've had no choice but to accept, and if Calzaghe had won he would've been considered a p4p top 5 fighter 7-8 years ago, rather than only recently. It also wouldn't have mattered if he'd not received a big pay day for beating Jones, because if he won he would've got big money from that point on, and if he'd lost he could go back to super middle and be the main man until retirement.

Calzaghe is now in a lose-lose situation for the rest of his career. If he wins against Hopkins and Jones they'll say it's meaningless because his opponents were too old. If he doesn't fight them because of their age then people will say he's ducking them. If he loses then they'll say he was always a poor fighter. When people look back in decades to come, RJJ will probably have his KO defeats dismissed because he was 34. If Calzaghe loses now, even in a close fight, the same people won't say that it's because he is 36, they'll say that it's because he was never any good in the first place.

It's unfair, but Calzaghe and his manager, trainer, promoter etc. knew the rules of the game from day one, and they still decided to play it this way. Calzaghe will probably try and secure at least one big name after Hopkins, and like I said, if it's Jones and he wins he still won't get the recognition he wants, so he'll probably end up fighting on a bit too long and end up losing to someone he would've beaten in his prime.

I think Calzaghe is a great fighter, but I don't think the world is going to suddenly change their minds and agree with me on that in the short amount of time he has left. Part of the reason for that is the unfortunate circumstances he found himself in, but a lot of it is his own fault.

                  Sorry for the long post
