  • Miguel Cotto is not ready for Mayweather yet.

First things first I know Hatton and Cotto are completely different fighters but they are both pressure fighters. Hatton was not ready to fight Mayweather and Hatton got knocked out. Yes Hatton was the best at junior welter weight but he had just not even fought anyone near to the prime class of Mayweather.

If Hatton was to fight his top opponents in junior welter weight rather than people like Carlos Mousse it would of made him a better boxer. Why does beating Juan Urango at welterweigh make him think he is good enough to step up? Hatton needed to work his way up the welterweight ranks if he wanted to beat Floyd.

Now with Cotto, Yes he has fought a lot better opponents but he needs to fight the current best welterweights in Kermit Cintron or Antonio Margarito, so Cotto needs to fight the winner of this fight as a good tester to see if he is ready for Floyd.

After Alfonso Gomez and Ricardo Mayorga then the winner of Cintron or Margarito (for IBF title) providing Cotto wins he then shall be really because lets get things straigh he is only most likely to get one shoot at Floyd so he need to be at the very top of his game.

It won't happen man. If Mayweather is any smart he will not fight Cotto in a few years. He's already 31, that's old for a welterweight you know..

Who has Cintron beat to make him one of the "best" welterweights...

the best fighter he will have fought will be his next fight against margarito...

As far as margarito goes he dropped a fight to williams on points...
williams loses to quintana later on (who cotto beat)
margarito's best wins over quality competition were joshua clottey; golden johnson; and a KO over Kermit Cintron in 5 rounds (i think it was 5 rounds).

neither fighter has fought guys that make me think they can hang with mayweather...

Cotto is clearly the front runner...
he's beaten Paulie Malignaggi; who i consider to be one of the fighters that resemble mayweather the most...true paulie is a lesser talented version of mayweather but we seen cotto could hang with the style that mayweather has....only BIG differences between malignaggi and mayweather besides natural talent is mayweather is a harder hitter than malignaggi and malignaggi tends to be more willing to trade than mayweather...

beyond that they are pretty similar in my opinion and i look at malignaggi as the perfect tune-up fight to fighter mayweather...oscar should be fighting malignaggi instead of forbes in my opinion...

miguel cotto has also been in there with the likes of carlos quintana, ricardo torres, zab judah, and a great of his era in sugar shane mosley...

yes cotto is a pressure fighter like hatton however:
              A) cotto is a smarter/more effective pressure fighter than hatton in my opinion
              B) cotto is one of the best currently active body punchers in the sport
              C) cotto can box. we seen this with mosley...and he was actually doing well with boxing mosley and that says a lot for mosley being a very good counterpuncher.

I think that extra fights wont hurt cotto and i agree with you on that...in fact as much as i want to see the cotto/mayweather fight i also look at it as a chance for cotto to get even better...

Cotto is going to fight a very game and very young gomez who i think he will steamroll and earn a late fight KO/TKO...then he's talking about a fight with Mayorga who is a good fight for cotto...i dont think it helps him prepare for mayweather (due to gomez' inexperience and mayorga being out of his prime somewhat) but its a fight against a name...money will talk for mayweather and a fight against mayorga boosts cotto's name in terms of money...

i think cotto needs to continue to fight high quality competition and i dont think his next two fights are the RIGHT fights to prepare...

do i think it will make THAT much of a difference...no...so long as he fights a top quality fighter before mayweather and judging by mayweather's inactivity that looks like it will be for the next year cotto has time...bob arum and his corner have done a good job with bring up cotto at the right speed against the right fighters at the right time...

so when the fight gets signed with mayweather i think he will be as ready as he can be.

I say Cotto is definitely ready NOW,Who better to fight in getting ready for a PBF fight than Zab judah and Mosley??? Those combination right there shows me he wants and he is ready for a Mayweather fight.

This isnt Hatton who was fighting Urango/Castillo before taking on the best fighter in the world in Mayweather, Cotto fought Judah(Better speed/Power than Mayweather)...fought Mosley (Better experience, Same speed/power as mayweather), I dont see any other fight that would prepare you for a Mayweather fight to be honest.
