i say if cotto doesnt deserve the fight with mayweather or isnt ready (according to the threadstarter) the only other two opponents that i dont have to think about being ready are Oscar de La hoya (who he's fought once in a close fight and is fighting again) and a catch weight fight with manny pacquiao...

beyond that almost another other fighter against floyd would definately lose and it wouldnt be hard to determine that...

other than de la hoya; cotto; and pacquiao the guy who would have the best chance is probably shane mosley who is falling out his prime and would have to have the fight of his life and then some...mayweather would probably win via majority decision.

unless cotto PROVES he's not ready (by dropping the gomez fight or mayorga fight) he's the best fighter in the welterweight division today...besides mayweather...

I do think Cotto deserves to fight Mayweather but what i'm saying is mayweather has a lot more experience that Cotto and i think at this point in time Cotto would lose. I think Cotto 3-5 fights down the line would give him that bit more experience, knowledge and skill to beat Mayweather.

cotto has fought every kind of style and every kind of fighter.cotto is just fighting somebody ho has all types of styles cotto will adapt to it and HE WILL WIN.

Cotto is a good fighter who actually improves each time he fights, but prime mayweather should win the fight, styistically, the attitrubutes are not in his favor and he knows it, which is why him and arum will wait until they see a weakness in mayweather.

Guys like Vernon Forrest will give mayweather problems (to be honest, right now id pick mayweather in that fight, but forrest is coming back) cotto doesnt have those attriubutes.

First things first I know Hatton and Cotto are completely different fighters but they are both pressure fighters. Hatton was not ready to fight Mayweather and Hatton got knocked out. Yes Hatton was the best at junior welter weight but he had just not even fought anyone near to the prime class of Mayweather.

If Hatton was to fight his top opponents in junior welter weight rather than people like Carlos Mousse it would of made him a better boxer. Why does beating Juan Urango at welterweigh make him think he is good enough to step up? Hatton needed to work his way up the welterweight ranks if he wanted to beat Floyd.

Now with Cotto, Yes he has fought a lot better opponents but he needs to fight the current best welterweights in Kermit Cintron or Antonio Margarito, so Cotto needs to fight the winner of this fight as a good tester to see if he is ready for Floyd.

After Alfonso Gomez and Ricardo Mayorga then the winner of Cintron or Margarito (for IBF title) providing Cotto wins he then shall be really because lets get things straigh he is only most likely to get one shoot at Floyd so he need to be at the very top of his game.
