Another thing, if Silva were to be successful in Boxing, how much would that really prove? His goal is to prove that MMA fighter are just as technical as Boxers, but he is argueably the top dude in MMA at the moment so anything less from him as far as technique would not be expected. It would be much more significant if tier 2 MMA fighters were to be successful.
Anderson Silva Vs Roy Jones Jr!?

Simple Silva is the first guy to get such a high status who happens to also have sick standup skills in MMA. Also Silva is the first guy to actually ask for it(which I find it hard to believe he would actually would want to do it unless the payday is there.)
LOL...co-main event. Do you know that the Lesnar Mir was the original main event that was promoted. Then they signed on Sylvia vs Nogeria and ONLY had that as the last match because it was an Interm HW fight. The draw was for Lesnar Mir.
You what the numbers were predicted with out the Lesnar Mir were? 350,000...there was an article on it last month descibing Lesnar's impact on ratings.
UFC ppvs do not normally do over 600,000. Yes there has been some....UFC 79, 71, 66 and 61 are the only ones I believe that have and they were all huge established names in MMA. Liddell, Ortiz, Gracie....UFC was able to get a Lesnar PPV, a guy with 1 mma fight against a complete can with 40,000 PPVs previous, and sell one of their highest grossing events.
All totally irrelevant. Neither of those guys was a boxer, and it wasn't a boxing match. Assuming there would be any crossover audience for a boxing match with Roy Jones is speculation at best. You have a guy whose career is owned by Dana White (who has never promoted a major boxing event) along with one of the most demanding and egotistical boxers ever. Good luck getting that done.Comment

Because we all know a website like boxingscene.com covers MMA on the FRONT page for ****s and giggles. All totally irrelevant. Neither of those guys was a boxer, and it wasn't a boxing match. I agree it doesn't prove much, it proves a single athlete in MMA is incredible and is able to have success in different combat sports. They're using the angle "All these boxers out there talking **** how MMA fighters aren't technical", but at this point I don't think that mentality flying as much from the boxing world or general public as it used to. Everyone across the board is getting more educated on MMA and they are realizing "Hey this isn't the sport of punching, there is a reason why its called Mixed Martial Arts, there is a reason why these guys don't use a traditional boxing stance, its a different sport". And what we are now seeing is what has been predicted all along, as MMA grows there going to be the "prototype" fighters coming out that are really athletic guys who excel in every aspect of the game. Silva is one of those guys right now. 20 years from now theres going to be a whole bunch of guys who not only have sick ground skills but guys who have sick stand up skills as well...being able to see the punch coming and can judge that it is not gonna connect to his face. He excels at to rapidly judging a punch in MMAAnother thing, if Silva were to be successful in Boxing, how much would that really prove? I don't see the fight happening at all. Hes under UFC contract, Dana White will not let him fight. White isn't ******, hes comes from a boxing background and doesn't want his star athlete fighting outside the UFC, especially in a different sport.Comment

i agree pretty much with everything you typed. one thing though, those gif's also show how offensive minded MMA fighters can get to the point of forgetting what defense can actually help you do. I really hope to see Silva lace up Gloves to start building his boxing career. I think he's done pretty much everything he could do in UFC at this point.I agree it doesn't prove much, it proves a single athlete in MMA is incredible and is able to have success in different combat sports. Hes pretty much cleaned out 185. Personally I don't want him in boxing because I want to see just how far he can take his MMA career. Have him move up to 205 and test his skills there. Silva is a huge MW, hes 6' 2" and walks around at 210-212.Comment
