Cotto never watches footage of his opponent. Neither does Mayweather. In the Magic Man documentary of Paulie Malinaggi.. there is an interview with cotto from about 1 week before their fight, and Cotto is asked what he's expecting from Malinaggi and if he's seen any video of his opponent. Cotto responds by saying he hasn't seen any video but he is well prepared. I don't think he took Paulie too seriously.. but maybe fighters don't always need to watch footage.. or maybe he was told Paulie is a chump. i'm sure he's gonna come prepared to end Gomez fast though.Comment

Gomez' (or is it Gomez's?) size, toughness, and jab is what makes this a somewhat competitive fight. I still don't see how he can win. I can see him winning 4 rounds maybe. His only shot is if he can hurt Cotto, and he doesn't have that type of power.
His last two fights he hasn't been tested. Gatti was head hunting with wide, slower than usual haymakers. He was never going to the body either. Gomez even said after the fight, "I just kept ducking because he was only aiming for my head." Tackie was pretty much the same except he's even slower, and he only throws three punches.
In the 8th round when Cotto starts to get going, Gomez will already begin to tire. By the 11th and 12th round, he'll be like Judah was.

I actually stole the term from Emmanuel Steward, who said Gatti would look like Robinson in his fight with Leo Dorin. Whenever Gatti is in with a guy whose style is built for him, especially when he was in the end of his career as a boxer-puncher, he looked like a picture perfect stylist with certain fighters.
Did I say he was as good as Robinson? Hell no, I wouldn't say that. Do I think Gatti was matched well, like against Dorin and Leija, so he would look like a better boxer than he really was? Hell yeah.Comment

Let's get away from Robinson, I think you're hanging on an analogy that deals more with perceptions than magnitude. I don't think you are grasping what I'm trying to say here. What I meant is that the caliber of opposition he faced made Gatti look better than he really was. The epitome of fighters who are better than Gatti is Ray Robinson, whom no one was ever better than.
