Same story as Hatton.

I was impressed that Mayorga beat Vargas at 160+, but then again I don't think he could win a round against Mayweather.

Gomez did beat Manfredo at a higher weight, but it was Manfredo and Manfredo isn't Cotto. Gomez didn't get lauded like Baldo did because it looked like Gatti was done. And he was.

      stop smoking crack..

Cotto's gonna be focused.. I don't think that he'd come into a fight right now unprepared.. He knows that if he doesn't finish Gomez convincingly, he's gonna have a heap of criticism

Cotto responds by saying he hasn't seen any video but he is well prepared. I don't think he took Paulie too seriously.. but maybe fighters don't always need to watch footage.. or maybe he was told Paulie is a chump. i'm sure he's gonna come prepared to end Gomez fast though.
remember he was weight drained even thou he beat malinaggi pretty bad it was a tough fight because of the weight drained but cotto has been always serious he won't take gomez easily he even said it.

He's fought guys like Shane Mosley, Ricardo Torres, Zab Judah, Carlos Quintana, and Paulie Malignaggi. He's gained a wealth of experience as a young champion and has become a complete fighter.

Contrast that with Alfonso Gomez, whose biggest wins have been Peter Manfredo, Ben Tackie, and Arturo Gatti.

The Manfredo fight was a 5 round fight.

Ben Tackie and Arturo Gatti were both beyond finished and I'm surprised either was sanctioned to fight.

You can point to Cotto's chin as a reason why Gomez is gonna win, but a puncher's chance means little when you're up against world talent. Cotto has shown a much tougher beard at 147 so I'd forget the Corley and Torres fights for a little. The only guy who rocked Cotto at 147 was Zab Judah and Judah is a much sharper puncher.

Alfonso Gomez looked like Roberto Duran beating on a smaller Arturo Gatti, but that version of Gatti was a sad imitation of "Thunder", a shadow of a man. Gatti was stationary and didn't have the legs to move around or defend himself anymore. Do you think Cotto would lay against the ropes and let Gomez measure him for a haymaker?

Gomez isn't particularly fast, strong, or skilled. He's going to be a sitting target for Cotto's body attack.

Class shows in boxing, and I think that will be the main difference when these guys fight.
For the most part i agree.

Cotto and Gomez ARE on different levels. Cotto has been in there with some world class competition (sugar shane mosley...arguably one of the best of his era and more than likely a future hall of famer) Zab Judah who i admit has fallen off still gave a decent fight and won some of the early rounds until cotto broke him down.

Paulie Malignaggi (next to Mosley in my opinion) is one of the best fights cotto could have taken.

Many seem to disagree but i believe Paulie Malignaggi is the step you need to take to get in there with the p4p best; floyd mayweather. and he won very clearly.

Gomez has some NAMES on his resume but many were just simply that; names...His biggest of which is Arturo Gatti but remember; were talking a war torn Gatti who fought many violent brawls...not gatti of 5 years ago. Gatti fell out of his prime and it showed.

Cotto wont allow gomez to measure him for a big right hand. Cotto IS world class talent who i believe puts gomez away in this fight probably sometime after the 8th round.

No knock on Gomez; he has shown potential but he's not ready for the number one welterweight contender in the world yet...

can be beat some of the top 10 welterweights? yes...but not the top guys.

IF it happened i would be highly surprised.

im so confident that i was willing to make a bet with the sportsbooks but cotto is a 10 to 1 favorite and the payout isnt good enough...but cotto wins and anyone that thinks differently should let me know. i will put points on it.

I've never bet here with points but im very certain of a cotto victory.

                .
i thought gatti struggled terribly with daamgard, i bet heavily on baldomir and gomez to beat him as a result.

Lets be realistic, it is impossible to ascertain any understanding of Gomez's abilities from his fight with Gatti. The Gatti in the ring that night bore ZERO resemblance to Arturo Gatti the Warrior everyone remembers.
