If Peter can't stop old Maskaev, then he's not really a world class heavyweight

Oleg Maskaev is past his 39th birthday. He's recovering from serious back injuries, and he's been inactive for a year and a half. Maskaev has been stopped five time in his pro career.

Sam Peter is in his prime, 12 years younger. Some say he's the hardest puncher in the heavyweight division...

Is it fair to say, if Peter fails to knock out Maskaev, then he's really not very good?

Well being that you've predicted that Maskaev will KO Peter then you ALREADY think that Peter isnt any good....

But I'm not overly confident of winning the bet, since Oleg has been inactive and because I don't know how much his back injuries will affect him. And his age must be a factor.

I think the Maskaev that defeated Rahman would stop Peter, however.
But......... wouldn't that take away from Wladimir, if it turns out that Peter isnt that great anyway and gave him one hell of a fight???

What an asinine thread this is! What ****** logic you have in your 'one track' Sam Peter hating mind...

What if I was to say( before the Klitschko fight), " if Wlad doesn't KO Ibragimov then he's not a worthy hw champion." Would that be fair? No, it wouldn't..

One of the knockdowns in the Peter vs Klitschko fight was legit.

Peter's performance in the fight against Klitschko is a bit overrated though, DaVarryl Williamson knocked Wladimir down at that point of Wlad's career and lost a technical split decision.
Peter is still quite unproven to me but he is one of the more entertaining characters in the HW division today. He just needs to stop the rabbit punching.

I don't consider Peter to be such a hard puncher. I think his punching power has been greatly exaggerated, fortunately for him though he's facing a champ who should be considered to have probably the weakest chin in the division's history relative to the other belt holders and former heavyweight champs of course. Peter hit Toney flush at least 25 times in both their fights and nothing. Couldn't get Mccline out of there. Couldn't get Klitchko either. All his kos have come against bums, and Maskaev has been koed mostly by below-average fighters. I think Peter's chin is better than Maskaev's and for this alone he should win via tko, ko. I'd pull for the underdog though.

I agree, I rarely disagree with what Tunney says, but to me this thread is very biased. He's basically saying, "I'm picking Maskaev to win, but if Peter doesn't win by KO, he's garbage" Where's the logic in that?

Well Sam Peter couldn't stop a fat old McCline, a fat old Hawkins or a fat old James Toney.... But then again, this is the same Maskaev that has had some disasterous KO loses. It all depends, but I think your question is a little too rigid... I guess at the most it wouldnt speak well for Peter, but I wouldnt go so far as to say he's GARBAGE.
