I'm probably the biggest Hopkins fan on this board, but atleast I realize their resumes are slightly similiar (while I give the advantage to Hopkins). And Calzaghe is certainly better then Kelly Pavlik.

Pavlik has beaten the Undisputed Champion Jermain Taylor (TWICE )

And Edison Miranda

Calzaghe has Kesseler and Lacy


I just think Taylor and Miranda were tougher Competition than Kessler and Lacy

It's true that Cotto took rather long to fight the elite of a weight division. Cotto's team matched him up with solid opponents to give him experience against a wide assortment of styles, but no real elite level, top 5 guy in a particular weight class until 2007. That's rather slow and deliberate for a guy with the amateur background and promotional push like Cotto.

But that's the past. Cotto just beat Mosley, whom most feel was one of the top WWs in the world. He's the most ideal opponent for Mayweather to fight. Mayweather would rather fight DLH for the payday, and Cotto's team was on record saying they preferred DLH for the money, so obviously this fight wasn't gonna happen that soon.

But the fight has to happen in early 2009.
