Chavez was too small.
If that fight had materialized when it was talked about, Norris would have been the first fighter to hang an L on the loss column of Chavez, not Randall (Barring that early DQ that was apparently reversed).Comment

Oba Carr (Motor City)
Meldrick Taylor (The Kid)
Hector Camacho (Junior!)
Terry Norris (Terrible)
just simply loved watching these dudes at the beginning of thier careers....then, I dunno, something happened. I was gonna say Tommy Morrison (The Duke), but they thought he had HIV, so he don't make this list cause he only lost 3 times in 48 fights!Last edited by guzi815; 02-29-2008, 07:13 PM.Comment

Thread stealer your obviously older than me
why did'nt the fight materalise everytime i saw an interview with Norris he was either calling out Chavez or WhitakerComment

Its only a 50/50 fight for me because Chavez had a good chin in his prime but Norris didn't, if Norris had a good chin this fight would have been 90/10 in favour of Norris, he had the skills to beat Chavez but not the chin.Comment

Around the time when the fight was being talked about, Chavez was a champ @ 140 and Norris @ 154. There was talk about a catchweight between the 2, as Norris was a rather small jr. middle, but Chavez fought WW champ Whitaker in September 1993 (with Norris destroying Joe Gatti on the undercard) at a catchweight 145 lbs.
Chavez in the eyes of nearly everyone, lost to Whitaker, then lost to Randall 4 months later.
I'm not too sure why Norris and Whitaker never fought. Maybe Duva and Whitaker didn't want to deal with Don King again (although they did fight Tito a few years later). I do know that when Whitaker made his move to 154 to fight Vasquez, Norris was without a belt, as he'd been DQ'd the first of 2 times against Santana.
As it is, it was a good move IMO for Whitaker to not fight Norris.Comment

But how much power do you think Chavez would carry up in weight, against a much bigger opponent.
Chavez generally wore guys down with a consistent attack downstairs and upstairs, against guys from 130-140. Norris was a 154 lb fighter. The guys who took him out or badly hurt him were:
Julian Jackson: one of the hardest hitters ever at 154 (and 160).
Simon Brown: a big puncher at 147 and whom could punch at 154 also
Troy Waters: a career-long junior middle whose KO percentage wasn't too shabby.
Luis Santana: a guy who spent basically his whole career at either 147 or 154.
Keith Mullings: another career-long 154 lb fighter.Comment
