Then people will still whine about how bad the division is and complain about a bum like Thompson (yes I know he's not) getting a title shot.

Thompson is underrated because he's 36 and really doesn't look like a heavyweight contender.

However, he's just a late-bloomer. He started boxing late and has really come a long way in the past few years.

At 6'5 he's not a power guy but has good boxing skills. Good jab and he'll apply pressure which gives him a good shot to win rounds.

The big question is his chin. It's never been tested by somebody like Klitschko.

The Austin comparison really makes no sense to me at all. Austin is nowhere near the boxer that Thompson is right now.

The right hand that didn't land on Sultan probably will on Thompson.

haha, right you are. that double jab and straight right that nearly sent sultan through the ropes was nice though.

you just know that manny is going to be grilling wladimir for weeks for letting sultan off easy.

            wlad by decapitation.

I actually dont agree. sultan is much quicker than thompson. I think thompson is just too slow and will be much easier for wlad to get his punches off on. he's not as quick with counters as sultan is,,so wlad will be more agressive in my opinion

Tony Thompson is a real, defensive southpaw heavyweight, not a bloated cruiserweight like Ibragimov.
Not that Ibragimov was bad but there was no chance of him countering Wladimir except with great timing, which he did not have. Atleast Thompson has size but the question is, does he have the skills or the speed?

IMO Thompson will be knocked out mid/late but it could go the distance, depending on how well he can take Wladimir's punches (because eventually they will land).
Klitschko's powerful jabs and rights could go straight through Thompson's high guard.

thompson is the best combination puncher and best body puncher in the heavyweight division. he also fights very well on the inside, he shortens up his punches suprisingly well for someone so big with no amateur experience.

the only way he wins is if he can keep his hands free on the inside, wlad seems to have mastered tying guys up so that may negate thompsons only significant advantage but you never know, if he gets his hands loose and hits wlad with 3 or 4 shots he can turn the tide.
