I've seen too many fighters start off like Gamboa; great speed and power with no defense. And to this point, without exception, when they got in their with a top 10 fighter they got exposed.

We'll see, but again I expect the same thing will happen to Gamboa. Like I said, one to two more fights and I hope they step him up to a Soto or Juarez. I think either fighter picks him apart.....
If you have any points by than we can wager them all. He has had over 400 am fights which shows there more than likely isn't a style he hasn't seen yet. He does rely on his reflexes way too much but time will tell if he can technically defend himself when his god given talent isn't doing so. I see him being a p4p elite, period. I will bet with anyone he will be on the top 5 p4p list in the future.

Having over 400 amateur fights, and winning how many Gold medals,i think he knows exactly what hes doing in the ring,if he needs to keep his hands up he will,he showed this in the De Jesus fight, that he couldent take him out early,so at times he had his hands up and was making him look silly, and who said he was dropped? U call that a knockdown? That was a slip, not to mention he got pushed, anyone could see that

With the amount of experience he's had from the olympics and amateur,he knows exactly what hes doing,i mean, look at the level of compitition hes had so far,his opponents have been no push overs,he is no doubt the best prospect in boxing, and one of the most naturally skilled fighters in the game,i havent seen him get caught with a HUGE shot yet,he obviously believes in his reflexes to keep his hands this low, dont forget,Cuba probably breeds the most skilled fighters,Gamboa was just lucky enough to escape and fight in the pro's,how can u not be impressed with the kid?

He's only had 9 pro fights against no bums, and he has looked simply amazing,Lou Dibella, who doesnt have nothing to do with him, even said, hes one of the most skilled fighters hes seen in person

Oh and comparing him to Andre Ward has got to be the worst comparison ive ever heard,Ward isnt too impressive

LOL... OF COURSE HE GETS TORCHED BY TOP 5 FIGHTERS RIGHT NOW! Come on. It was his 9th pro fight. If he could beat top five fighters, he would be fighting top five fighters. Have you forgot the concept of developing as a pro? Amateur habits are changed all the time, no matter how long they were around.

Gamboa has a lot to learn about being a pro fighter and maybe he learns, maybe he doesn't. He's fun to watch and may be ready for the top level in 6-7 fights, but he needs to be in there with someone he can go rounds with. Blowing guys out in the first doesn't teach you anything.
That KD as hardly legit, though.

It's a little silly to to criticize a young prospect with 9 fights. Some guys will have 20 fights or more before they step up the competition. Gamboa has already faced pretty decent opponents considering he's had less than 10 fights. His 3rd pro fight was against a guy with over 50 pro fights on his record (40-11)). That is unheard of for a young fighter to face such an experienced fighter. Gamboa is going to be a champion.

And in regards to his defense - maybe it's because he is so confident inside the ring, it's kinda like Roy Jones jr or someone like that in their prime.

The Ring Magazine wrote a good article about that too, and the author said that they've never seen a young prospect with less than 10 fights have such high confidence in the ring and knowing that at any moment he can knock out his opponent. The author said the only other prospect they've ever seen with that kind of ring confidence with under 10 fights was Joan Guzman.

Gamboa is absolutely dominating his opponents, and these guys he's faced aren't complete tomato cans like Tyron Brunson has faced or someone like that, his competition has been pretty damn decent (all winning records and all of them had more experience in the ring).

You honestly think that was a legitimate knockdown?

I want to see what happens when a decent puncher hits him and can take his shot. A guy like Jorge Barrios or Humberto Soto would answer those questions, but Gamboa needs a step up.
So he's supposed to be fighting top 10 guys after 8 fights (before the other night?) This is nine fights for him now and not one of his opponents has a losing record, or even close to one. Please show me another boxer than has done the same in his first nine fights and hasn't lost yet.

We all want to see him fight better opposition, but he sure doesn't need to be facing world beaters while he's still in the stage of getting recognition from the general public.

On FNF's even Teddy said that if somebody has fought 400 fights then they probably know how to fight. He does rely on his reflexes a little too much, but against better fighters Im sure he knows what to do. Could it be early that people are annointing him as the next great fighter, yes, but he has to tools to become just that.
