I saw Gamboa fight last night for the first...

time. He reminds me alot of Andre Ward. By the way, don't be surprised if Ward has a tough time and gets a controversial decision in his next fight.

I was not that impressed with Gamboa. IMO, his defense has WAY TOO MANY holes. I think he gets starched by any of the top 5 SF's.

I'd lik to see him against Soto or Juarez....

initially, i was thinking the same thing but then they announced he has OVER 400 amatuer fights.

my experience tells me that if one still fights by punching from their waste after 400 fights, it is too late to train that out of them. i doubt they are going to be able to correct that. he also has a very bad tendency of backing straight up.

he relies soley on his speed and punching power and he comes across as being very ****y like abdre berto.

it's guaranteed that any SF that fights with his hands around his waist and backs straight up will get KTFO.

very few fighters can get away with that in the higher weight classes. but NO ONE can do that in the smaller weight classes. those fighters are just way TOO FAST.

a technically sound fighter that has a great jab and keeps their hands up will kick his ass easy...

It's still very early in his pro career and he can correct those mistakes, he has the tools to be one of the best of this generation. Speed, power, reflexes, flashiness.

well let's keep this in mind and see how it plays out because I couldn't disagree more.

I predict he goes out like Jeff Lacy........

I had to shake my head at some of the posters prematurely annointing Gamboa to be the greatest ever. Sure, he looked great in the first round. When I saw him in his US debut, he looked like Roy Jones in the first round. After that, he's a different fighter. He even went down in that fight.

Gamboa has a lot to learn about being a pro fighter and maybe he learns, maybe he doesn't. He's fun to watch and may be ready for the top level in 6-7 fights, but he needs to be in there with someone he can go rounds with. Blowing guys out in the first doesn't teach you anything.

I'm saying he can be one of the best if he can fix a few things, he only has 9 fights under his belt.

How do we know when he hasn't been tested yet? The guy he fought last night had good credentials but never got started. As a learning experience, it was worthless.

I want to see what happens when a decent puncher hits him and can take his shot. A guy like Jorge Barrios or Humberto Soto would answer those questions, but Gamboa needs a step up.
