Yeah, saying Ibragimov, 40 year old Maskaev, Eddie Chambers and Povetkin would slaughter all of the 70's top heavyweight contenders is a bit too much.

I can understand Wlad and maybe Peter.

          Forget old Oleg.

Yeah Sultan is a HW more like in the 70's, and Norton would deserve to be favored over him.

Chagaev is tough though. Chagaev would make a tougher match than Quarry. I won't say he'd win. RC has looked ugly against people he had to look ugly against: Ruiz, Valuev, Skelton. But he won those and he's a better boxer than that showed.

I didn't mean that. But they're all very small and wouldn't even fight at HW today, unless they crept up to steal a title from a Ruiz, old Oleg, or Briggs or something.

Actually Young fought Shavers twice, losing by a 3rd round KO then fighting to a draw. Young lost some other fights to less than stellar talents, so I wouldn't go quite that far.

Quarry and Ellis are too small, they would be cruiserweights or light heavyweights today, Norton and Lyle would be normal sized heavyweights (6'3, 220), Shavers and Young would be on the smaller side like Ibragimov and Chambers.

Agreed but he did beat Ali in 76, Foreman in 77, Lyle in 76 and was robbed v Shavers in 74.

At 6 3" that is a resume that wouls stack up. He would beat everyone but Wlad and that would be a tough fight.

What do you think Young would do aS A Cruzer?

I never saw the Shavers fights, and I remember Young being listed at 6'2. Can't imagine how he could to hold off Klitschko. It would probably resemble his fights with Byrd.

If he had trimmed down to 200 lbs Young would have no doubt been more fit. He still wouldn't have much power, but he'd likely be skilled enough to win a title.

It was sad when I learned that Young died with his mind gone and in total poverty a few years ago.

Was a shame i have an intrest in that era and forget his later bouts he was a superb boxer really was superb he scholled Foreman like there was no tomorrow and his Sd loss to Norton (a yr prior to his Holmes fight) was a war.

Chagaev, Ibragamov he would have schooled.

I think it shows what an era it was the fringe guts would beat 99% of todays heavies.
