The above is to work out the impact force (generally of projectiles), not to work out punch power where the speed of the punch is relatively negligable anyway (as compared to a bullet for example).

Considering that a correctly developed punch applies force from the legs and therefore the entire body strength having ripped shoulders is not necessarily going to help you one bit in boxing, even in giving you extra power. A big ripped muscular dude came to our gym talking about going pro, and got compeltely outboxed by everyone including me. He hit me with his biggest right hand and I thought a mosquito had farted on me, it was that weak.
Point taken, but I didn't have the time to go into more detail and I agree good technique improves your power (and speed) more than muscle. That guy had **** technique compared to you, you have described very well how you generate your power - you bring more of your mass to bear into the force of the punch (whereas with a jab you have the speed, but less of your mass put through it i.e. the weight of the projectile is less). A perfectly executed hook in slow motion would still bring your mass to bear but it needs the speed to deliver. Yeah, the hardest punchers aren't normally the quickest, but those shots are still quick per se and because of technique the full force of their bodies comes through the shot.

Take a look a a mantis shrimp, it weighs little more than a king prawn, but through its 'technique' and speed of delivery it can knock through a crab's shell or break a man's finger

More muscle = more oxygen needed. Period.

This guys punch must be powerful like the hulk1

Once again you show your ignorance and lack of boxing knowledge.

First the thread about being bored with boxing unless there is a reality show to hype it up and now this.

        You're getting pathetic.

Chronic weight lifting makes you slower, sluggish, & less fluid...just ask Jeff Lacy!

I don't know if you're just joking but if you are serious, that really translates to "The Eye of the Tiger". I'm french so don't put up an argument.

i think it depends on your Body structure ,it definetly affects your stamina dramatically though not question about that

i did wieghts for a few years when i stopped Boxing Ameteur & my fighting weight was 130 lbs but when i stopped Boxing & started weight training i went upto 168 lbs & i promise u i have never taken steroids in my life ,on my kids lives

i was bench pressing 115 KG 3 reps ,Curling 50 kg ,which is pretty decent not amazing but decent IMO ,i have recently started back Boxing & i am down to 140 lbs i have'nt touched a weight since i decided to continue Boxing & my speed is fine, infact i feel even quicker now than i did before ,im not blowing my own trumpet but i am very quick & i think the fact that my Muscle was'nt all tought & tight like say Jeff Lacy is has'nt restricted my movement & slowed me down at all it has improved my speed if anything

i think Muscle restricts your movement but Mass is fine IMO ,there is a difference between Body Building & weight Training dont forget
