    Cotto-Mayorga in July? Quintana-Margarito Next?

There are some strange reports coming out of the popular Puerto Rican paper, El Nuevo Dia. The first is claiming that Ricardo Mayorga (29-6, 23 KOs) has signed a contract to fight Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25 KOs) on July 19 with HBO pay-per-view televising. The information is coming from Mayorga himself, who may be telling the truth or simply hyping himself in position for a fight with Cotto. [details]

That whole article doesn't make sense, I thought the Cotto vs Gomez and Margarito vs Cintron fights were already signed and sealed.

If they do fight, Cotto knocks Mayorga out in 9 and Margarito KOs Quintana in 6.

Margarito's people know Cintron is a coward who is already starting to regret even thinking about rematching Margarito. They are just looking for another opponent because there's a good chance Cintron pulls out.

Well right after Williams/Quintana I started wanting to see Tony/Quintana.

Primarily because he'll flat out hunt Quintana down.

What a disaster this would be.
First, we lose Williams-Cintron to injury.

Then, we have Floyd taking the Oscar paycheck and not fighting Cotto.

Further, Cotto takes a fight against Gomez, further forestalling any significant fights from the top two welters.

And then, when it appears we can get some consolation from all of this with a Marg-Cintron rematch that will at least give us something significant, we have this. If Marg-Quintana gets made, that's is beyond ridiculous at this point. Marg's love affair with the WBO is weird.

The Mayorga-Cotto thing I don't buy for a second, but if it is somehow true, then the Cotto-bashing should reach an appropriate all-time high. To take a PPV fight against Mayorga after Gomez would pretty much match Floyd's Bruseles/Gatti two-fights in 2005 to a T. Horrible mismatches to make $$$ and nothing else.

there is no way a Mayorga-Cotto fight gets made. It makes no sense first of all. Second of all Margarito-Cotto makes much more sense. And third of all, Mayorga does **** like this all the time. He's probably making it up

I will say, if this is a safeguard move from Marg regarding a possible Cintron pull-out (something worth considering given Cintron's Williams pull-out), then I actually applaud Marg for making the best possible fight in the divisoin given the circumstances. Well, I guess Mosley-Mayorga would be the best possible fight, but this is still solid.

Yeah, the biggest reason the Cotto-Mayorga thing makes no sense is because of the looming Cotto-Margarito summer fight. Arum will make $$$$$$ on that one, and no matter the outcome, as long as it's a good fight, he will make $$$$$ on the rematch if one is warranted. Then again, maybe he's worried about Cintron crashing the party and Main Events getting a piece of his Cotto pie.

If the fight was to really happen which I doubt as well I would say Cotto wins an easy decision. Facing the winner of Margarito/Cintron would make more sense to me.

In a perfect boxing world we would get Cotto/Mayweather and DLH/Trinidad, Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend at Madison Square Garden, I'd pay 75.00 for it on PPV especially with another descent fight added on!!!! That's a "real" co-feature and you can say they couldn't pay the fighters, but just try it once and make ticket prices and PPV orders a little higher and get a fantastic card made!!!!

How many buys would a Cotto/Mayweather and DLH/Trinidad PRDP weekend day fight do, in your opinions?
