Exactly, sometimes it just happens and sometimes it can be the best thing to ever happen to you - Kostya Tyzsu being a good example, after getting pasted by Phillips he came back better than ever.

The hype created by the media, promoters and sites like this can cause younger fighters today to not want to risk the 0 for fear of the backlash, Williams is a perfect example, built up to be one of the best welters in the world, when he lost it was all " well, he was never that good". Same for Taylor, Hatton etc.., look what happened when RJJ eventualy got beat, he has been torn to shreds for the last couple of years.

Mayweather will lose eventually, so will cotto,so will Calzaghe, not saying when or who to but it will happen, imagine the pasting they will get when they do based on current trends - especially Mayweather.

Hopefully this can change over time and people will realize that a loss doesnt mean ****, there are some amazing fighters out there but some need to realise that the fights and the paydays wont dry up because of a loss.

the best fighter who ever lived had 19 losses, Ali had 5, Tyson has 6, holyfield 8 etc.... the career continues

Not always. What do you think was worse, Lennox Lewis's loss to Hasim Rahman or Jeff Lacy's loss to Joe Calzaghe?

Sometimes it can be good for a young fighter to have a loss (not a devastating ko though), especially if they are starting to become arrogant, Haye has improved because of his loss to Thompson and look where he is now, I think khan would benefit from a loss.

But a lot of people were saying he wasn't that good before he lost. He had already been exposed by Mitchell as being extremely easy to hit clean, and he doesn't have the power or the accuracy to negate this against top opposition.

but these are fighters who fought well past their primes, PBF and Calzaghe could retire undefeated if they are smart.

this is why i feel it is harder to make it in boxing than it is in UFC. ****, Liddel got knocked out 2 times in the first round and was still headlining events.

When you consider the Loss rate in Boxing is 50%... people are a bit too harsh..

It is not the loss alone that hurts you, its how you lose. When the fighters are evenly matched, fight hard to the finish, and there is a hard time declaring a victor than it doesnt hurt you. When you get embarrased in the ring for a loss, then it hurts.
