I agree, but you also have guys like Ruiz, Tszyu, Judah, etc that bounce back from relatively early KO losses to have pretty decent careers. Then you have guys like Kessler who doesn't seem like he's going to fight again (though I'm sure he will) from a relatively close decision loss. For the most part you're right though.

Williams' loss is going to hrt huim more because he's a stylistic nightmare for everyone at 147. Tall as hell and a ****en southpaw,, so it was hard to get people in the ring with him. Now that he has lost he is going to struggle to get that recognition as a top welterweight and then to get anyone in the ring with him. It's not the end for him but it's a huge setback, I think he'll move up to 154 before he gets a shot at a title again, if it happens.

It's not that bad for Hatton though. He moved up in weight, he's still king at 140.

The Williams loss is going to hurt him more because many were hyping him in the media and in the early rounds Quintana was making him look like an amateur. Even when Quintana tired Williams never dominated. Not to say he wont be back just think it will take him longer to return to the spotlight.

I think loses affect you more later on in your career if you get big and are undefeated then early in your career.

                It changes everything...

It didn't used to be, but now the packaging for TV is so hype oriented it's become much bigger than it should be. That is the ONE thing I like about MMA. If you lose you're not trashed like you are in boxing. When you are talking about a younger fighter undefeated is often another way of saying protected.

yea like the thread starter said, losing does affect a fighter profoundly..
It's just the way it is.....
i don't know whether its because its a 1 man sport, or because it involves physical combat.

Fritzie Zivic a hall of famer has more losses than most of the boxers today have fights.

Glen Johnson has 11 'losses' but he has done pretty well for himself. Some (******) people call Glen a bum because of his losses though so I get what you mean.

Most of the fighters will lose at some point of their career, it's bad to lose but it's even worse to give up after losing. Coming back strong after a loss defines greatness.

Sometimes you gotta lose to win. Enough said. There always one person that's gonna be better than you, but if you lose and know what mistakes you've made you can fix them and eventually bounce back. Yes it can affect you mentally, but sometimes a fighter has to lose.
