Discouragement to Calzaghe fans?

I think that Joe's recent experiences are far more useful than Hopkins'. Especially the Bika fight, which will probably be an indication of how things will turn out when it gets ugly.
Hopkins has recent wins against a limited and terrified Tarver and a struggle against a vastly out of his weight class Winky Wright, whereas Joe has a blowout of a reality show chump together with wins over Mikkel Kessler and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine's husband. Hopkins is experienced but he's already lost two fights recently because he didnt thrown enough punches (both against Taylor).Comment

You have to study INDIVIDUAL fighters and their tendencies. Don't put fighters into classes in order to draw crude analogies. Now that you see that counterpunching cut a volume puncher's output in half... are any of you any more worried about Hopkins (probably the best counter puncher in the game right now) than you were before Quintana knocked off Williams.
I wonder how many times I'm going to hear, " YEAH!!! LOL BUT JOE ISN'T PAUL!!! IDIOT!"
This is not a good effort from you, Wieny, but I have confidence you'll step your game back up.Comment

Cant help but agree with the most recent posts!!
Joe is too busy and throws too many punchers and will win UD. If hopkins unsettles him and somehow gets him into a fight (not a boxing lesson) then him could KO Joe cos who has REALLY tested his chin??
Who do you think whould have won this fight 6-7 years ago???Comment

I'd say Kessler showed Calzaghe has a great chin, he took some massive uppercuts in that fight and recovered from them quite well.Cant help but agree with the most recent posts!!

It's not just counterpunching that can throw off a person like Joe's workrate. Quintana was cliching to nulify Williams workrate also. Bernard is a very good clincher.
If calzaghe wins, it's because of his speed, not his workrate.Comment

The fight last night was instructive in terms of how Hopkins might beat Calzaghe, but really Joe isn't Paul. Just because the styles are that similar doesn't mean the fights will play out exactly the same. Now that you see that counterpunching cut a volume puncher's output in half... are any of you any more worried about Hopkins (probably the best counter puncher in the game right now) than you were before Quintana knocked off Williams.

Hopkins always had that potential for beating Calzaghe because of the technique factor, but Calzaghe should win mostly because he's 8 years younger. If Hopkins does win it would just prove that Calzaghe isn't as good as most people think he is right now. It really won't have anything to do with Paul Williams.Comment

I don't see how Calzaghe can be compared to Williams other than the punch output. Calzaghe fights nothing like Williams. He always goes in and gets dirty with his head down and starts throwing flurries. Williams never does that. He also adapts pretty well to his opponents, like with Kessler when he started beating Kessler with the jab.Comment
