Its tiresome to hear that people 'cant' beat other people. We're not talking ranking differences of 500 places. You're not talking about a club fighter against the champion of the world. Cotto COULD beat Mayweather. Cotto is one of the fighters out there within the weight division who would have the best chances of beating Mayweather. However, Floyd would quite rightly be the favourite in the fight.

    Its as simple as that.

Cotto has proven he can compete at the level that mayweather operates and he is the closest in terms of giving Mayweather problems at 147, Even though i dont see him winning against Mayweather anything can happen in boxing, I just hope this fight Happens between now and 2009.

Personally Paul williams with another 2 or 3 fights beat Mayweather but he really needs more experience to go up against a smart fighter like PBF.

He MUST fight Cotto to be remembered as an all time great? Lets be serious, Cotto is a good fighter, perhaps even great, but Floyd has pretty much dominated the sport of boxing for nearly 10 years. He's gonna be remembered as one of the best by anyone with more than a dozen brain cells. Now, if you want to say that a Cotto fight would extend his legacy a little bit more then I would agree.

WTF!?! Are you serious? The WHOLE boxing community agrees on this???

Mayweather would have been remembered as an all-time great if he'd never even gone up to Welterweight. The fact that he has and is fighting pretty good competition, and yes Judah, Baldomir, DLH, Hatton is pretty good competition, is just improving his standing.

Cotto is the best fight out there for him and it's a fight that all boxing fans want /demand to see, but hyperbole doesn't serve your point well. Mayweather's greatness is beyond question at this point. It's the degree of greatness that remains in doubt. A win over a prime and undefeated Cotto will put him a lot closer to where he believes he ranks all time. But he's done more than enough thus far to put himself in the ranks of all-time great.

Mayweather knows his win over Hatton has really silenced his criticts and most experts now recognise that Cotto can't beat him so why is there such a demand for this fight? Sure, I'd love to see them fight but then it will just be Paul Williams after that. "What Ifs" really get on my nerves.
hatton is garbage him and cotto are not in the same league cotto is a better boxer than hatton and cotto and hatton fight nothing alike.

I'm not sure of the exact percentage, but a LARGE majority of people polled thought Oscar would beat Floyd also. People always get hyped up over the next fighter.
