Gomez was a stud though... I learned about him when I asked if Erik Morales was the best 122 pounder ever.
He has a record of 17 title defenses all by Ko and a career recor of 44-3-1 with 42 Ko's. The only two who reached the final bell were Juan Laporte and Ricky Lockridge. Gomez was one of the best ever and one of my all time favorites.

Earnie Shavers. Wasn't a very good boxer and didn't have the greatest chin, and these two things and being in the best era of heavyweights kept him from winning a world title. Even though he fought till he was 50, he still had 68 knockouts in 74 wins. A true puncher.

I guess the definition of a slugger is a guy who wants to win as much as everyone else, but doesn't even try to win rounds. He tries to knock you out... if he doesn't, then he hopes he has done enough damage to win a decision.

Mayorga was still trying to KO Forrest in the 12th round, even though Vernon was fresh (relatively speaking), and pretty much everyone had Mayorga winning at that point.
Similar to when Miranda ran across the ring with the final bell ringing just to hit Allan Green one more time and try to KO him eventhough Pantera was well ahead on the cards.

Oh and Julian Jackson was a puncher not a slugger/brawler. Guys like Mike Tyson and David Tua fit into that category.
