I'll agree with this.
I have only spoke on one fight where I hadn't seen both guys fight... and that was only because Versatile bet 23K that Golden Johnson would beat Antonio Margarito. I looked at his record, and took the bet blind.
Other than that, I try to lurk on topics like Chagaev-Skelton (because I haven't seen Skelton).
I haven't breathed a word on Haye-Maccarinelli, because I haven't seen either. So what would I possibly contribute to the discussion? Jack ****?
Uhh yes.
This guy gets it.Comment

For an man to turn pro at 35 and be challenging of a world title just imagen tho if he lerned his technique as an AM. Remeber he has only had 22 boxing fights ever before the world title shoot(For get kickboxing/mma that a whole different game.) Im just saying it hypothetically.Comment

And just Imgaine if you hadn't dropped out of school at age 12.. Matt Skelton may have only been boxing for five years, but he was heavily involved in combat sports for the fifteen years before that.
Skelton actually uses martial arts techniques and tricks on his pro boxing opponents. If you carefully watch his McDermott fight on YouTube, you'll see Skelton put him on the canvas without a real punch, although it was scored a knockdown.
Skelton cannot box well from a distance at all, but his long experience in MMA helps him when he's in close, and his being big and strong doesn't hurt either. He was repeatedly holding Ruslan's head while hitting him - you can actually render someone unconscious by putting your arm around their head that way, and choking off the blood to the brain.
Skelton is a dirty fighter and was an unwise choice for Ruslan as a voluntary defense. Other people listed by WBA such as Meehan, Mollo, Moorer, Johnson, Chapman, Rahman would have been much easier opponents, even though, strictly speaking, they're all better "boxers" than Skelton.
But I'm happy Ruslan had a successful title defense. I hope he fights at least three times this year - his mandatory against Lyakhovich or Valuev, and hopefully another voluntary defense or, if possible, a unification fight.Last edited by The Hammer; 01-20-2008, 12:51 PM.Comment
