Tougher Fight: Alfonso Gomez or Carlos Baldomir?
Collapse

Gomez has better hand & footspeed than Baldomir, as well as a being a little better all-round boxer than him as well.
Baldomir has the better chin, & pretty impressive stamina.
Overall, think that Gomez is the better fighter, but neither really present much more than a decent workout for Cotto, or any of the top welters.
On the plus side, however, both come to fight, & Gomez will give it all he's got, & will probably be decently entertaining for as long as it lasts.Comment

I saw both fights. Gatti was dominated in both for sure, and looked good at points against Baldomir, but after his fight with Carlos, Gatti would not count past three.

Gomez has been able to beat guys who are bigger than him. Honestly, I don't think his record really reflects how good he's become. He's certainly not world class, but I think that training with The Contender staff and Sugar Ray Leonard really improved his fighting skills. Baldomir is just a flat out bum. I have no idea who in the hell he beat Judah. The guy was struggling on Telefutura after the Mayweather fight and got a split decision against a journeyman.Comment

man Clottey was DQ'd..Baldomir is tougher, he was undefeated for 8 years, beat Clottey, Judah and Gatti and was the world welterweight champion. Baldo is much more proven than Gomez is at this point, Gomez has only beaten an even older Gatti and Peter Manfredo.
Carlos Baldomir is underrated.
Gomez beat a bigger Manfredo and Gatti as well..Comment
