    Is Vitali A Coward Fighter?

For no longer wanting to fight further after he hurt his shoulder against Chris Byrd?
Even the commentators were bewildered by his decision not to continue.

The guy ripped his shoulder and had major surgery afterwards. It's easy for an announcer to be brave. That loss set his career way back so I'll take his word for it. Why would he fear the soft punching Byrd he was way ahead of?

Cowardly on that night maybe, I attribute it more to ignorance than sheer cowardice though. He really didn't think his injury was a bad reason to quit fighting, he didn't understand the fight to your death mentality of most fans. He made up for it a lot by taking hell from Lewis and showing the balls he so sadly lacked against Byrd when he wanted to keep fighting with that hideous gash.

              No.

He's just an overrated fighter who ran from his mandatory like Jim Lampley's girlfriend after she overcooked the steak, but he's not a coward.

Thread Stealer - **** you for hating on vitali and trying to spread bull****.

but you are right, he is no coward.

actually, it was a rignside doctor who recommended/demanded that vitali stop and have his shoulder looked at immediately - i beleive based upon vitali's input that he couldn't feel his arm.

he also fought for something like 6 rounds with this torn shoulder - so it is not that he gave up or anything. also, meaning that it had hardly anything to do with byrd's skill. perhaps bad warm up, etc. but i beleive it was round three when his shoulder got messed.

he also learned that american *******s don't give a **** about fighters and wouldn't care if he went on to win that fight but never boxed again. thus, he made it a rule to never stop a fight under any circumstance again and to protest against a stoppage of any kind in the future.

I think it's very wrong to try and label someone a coward when they put their life on the line in the worlds toughest sport.

Weak-minded, quitter, childish are all citicisms that can be labelled at certain fighters, but calling him a coward is very unfair.
