The stoppage was **** on. Possibly most perfect stoppage I have ever seen, if he had fallen into the ropes and the ropes werent there (he was on other side of ring) he would not have got back up, surely thats the whole point of a TKO, to prevent a dangerous KO?

Yeah cos he nearly put Mitchell into the 10th row with a missed punch

Ottke was one of a few men to retire as an undefeated champion. The sad fact of the matter is he was beaten at least 6 times, most notably by Robin Reid, Charles Brewer and Byron Mitchell (who have all lost to Calzaghe FAIRLY). He never boxed outside of Germany I believe and was possibly the biggest gift receiver in the history of boxing. He was by no means a bum, he was a good fighter, but worthy of being an undefeated champion he was not. It is quite a common expression that "even Ali would have lost to Ottke in Germany", and "gotta knock him out to draw" has never been more appropriate. Its a shame, because as I said he was a decent fighter.

doesn't his name just repulse you though. In fairness its not his fault really. He was limited, but decent.

I remember reading or hearing that Mutchell went straight to hospital anyway, and the fact that he didnt fight for 4 years says a lot about the damage inflicted in that fight also.

Mitchell was getting hurt in there, you'd have to be somewhat of a **** to complain about that stoppage.

Though in theory he could have let is go another half a round. Which would have been utterly pointless.

I actually hold no grudges against Ottke, he did nothing wrong. It was the judges who turned his name to mud, they are the ones who should be named, shamed and forever in disgrace. (unless they were paid off, in which case Ottke probably would have known and it WAS his fault)

as unlikely as it sounds, I thought the ref could have been paid off in the Reid fight, Reid got warned several times for having the audacity to punch Ottke.

Ottke was a joke, in the Reid fight he was constanly winging to the ref and trying to get Reid disqualified. I also have strong su****ions that the judges and refs were paid off during Ottkes career, hes a fraud.

Damn good fight for the two rounds it lasted. The crowd had NO IDEA how to react when Cal hit the ground, it went silent for a few.

I don't think anywhere in the world are there more terrible robberies than there. Undefeated my ass! He has about twenty losses!

In fact I believe he is one of the most overrated hack champions I've ever witnessed and his pathetic excuse for boxing should have been shut down with his first loss...which unfortunately never did occur...even though he lost many decisions...if you know what I mean? I can't believe some people actually rate him highly or as some kind of defensive boxing wizz!?
totally agree it was shamefull to see so many fighters robbed against ottke.
