Why's there always a "catch" to Hopkins' best wins?

Toney has ducked no one and perhaps beat Peter more impressively than Wlad but didn't get the nod, that would've crowned his whole career and we wouldn't have to see him fight any more. Also if he hadn't used roids against Ruiz.

James Toney never really peaked as a fighter, he'd win some and lose some, that's his biggest problem, he lacked any sort of a decent reign.
I think Toney's best performance and his lighter division peak when he destroyed Iran Barkley at 168.

Another time he peaked would be at higher weights was when he beat Jirov and destroyed old Holyfield like no one else ever has.

          Kessler in particular.

Does anyone think if Trinidad manages to beat Jones it could make Hopkins' win over him a lot bigger? Or do people not care about that match-up at all and think it's not relevant in the least bit (kind of what I think).

If Trinidad beats fighters at a higher weight it could really water down the argument that Hopkins was too big for Tito.

No more than Pavlik knocking Taylor again out makes his losses look yet worse.

              But I see your point.

If Roy beats Tito, it's because Tito is too small.

If Tito beats Roy, it's because Roy's too old.

Whichever way you cut the cake, neither fighter will get much credibility from the boxing public.

Hopkins resume isn't great. But there are solid fighters in there. His biggest wins are against DLH, Trinidad, Winky and Tarver. DLH and Trinidad were too small, Winky ate too much Krispy Kremes and taking into account Tarver's latest performances, it's pretty safe to say he was past it when they fought. It doesn't take away the fact that he defended his title 20 times.

I don't think Trinidad will get much credit if he beats Jones. People are just going to say Jones is too old and that he's shot.

I agree with that and that's probably what I would say if Tito wins the fight.
I just can't see Trinidad beating Roy Jones unless he is totally shot.
