Its not fair comparing the 60's heavyweights with the new heavyweights due to the size difference. For me the reason for lack of exciting fights is due to there size, the 50's 60's heavyweights would be cruiser weights and they still produce great fights something the heavyweights have trouble doing. many of the modern heavyweights have conditioning problems.
I don't care if Floyd Patterson would get beat by wlad i would still rather watch him fight.

who is the best American heavyweight right now (cuz I honestly don't know)???
I had to think hard on this one only because they're all either pretty bad or unproven. My choose is Eddie Chambers only because he recently beat Calvin Brock and he's 30-0.

The only Patterson fights that I like were his two with Liston.

If the Eastern European heavyweights were white or black Americans the division would be very popular and the UFC wouldn't even be close to boxing.

Can you imagine how popular the Klitschko's would be if they were American...Wlad and Vitali would be gods and they would both be able to run for president and win.

America is the most racist, nationalist country in the world.

I used to live just outside of Hartford CT. and before I left town, I saw this guy named Kevin Johnson (aka Kingpin) fight on the undercard for the Elvir Muriqi (spelling?) vs. Tarver fight. He seemed to have all the tools to be the next great american heavyweight. He had no real power, but excellent defense and an outstanding jab. I really think he would destroy Calvin Brock. Anyone seen him fight since then? maybe it was just me, but I thought he looked legit at the time.

Overall the division is awful. It's pretty top heavy though. In other words, Wlad is very good, and theres another group of guys ranging from solid to pretty good.

              Other than that it's ****.

Kevin Johnson, LOL.....he is nothing special, he has a good jab, but he can't crack an egg and he would easily get KO'd by Wlad in 1 round.

You need to forget about the Americans heavyweights, they will always let you down. Eastern European heavyweights are gonna be dominating for a very long time and you yanks are gonna just have to get used to it. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the Eastern Europeans dominate for the rest of existence.

So outside of the States is a Utopia?

I too think Wlad would be more popular if he was born in the States, but being knocked out twice doesn't help either.
I still watch and root for him, but the "casual" fan tends to get turned off. A big key to becoming popular is also being promoted correctly and grabbing the attention of the people...then following through.

And it's not always about being "American." If it were, then why do I keep hearing how a past-prime Pele was selling out stadiums when he played soccer here and this is from a country that finds "soccer" boring to watch, even though it is played by millions of kids until they are 13.

Or the many Latinos that make it in baseball that are very popular?

Steve Nash is very popular and so is Dirk.

And yes, we've discuss that there is supposedly a difference in team sports, but if that were true, why waste money on buying the jersey with the person's name on the back? You still are drawn to the player first.

How about Hollywood Stars that are not "American"?

We should also remember that Patterson was a middleweight in the Olympics, where he won Gold, and then bulked up to become a Heavyweight, in which he was still under 200 pounds.
