how more develpoed is taylor to that hopkins? loads and way more experiencedBased on his performance in that matchup? Or based on the fact that you looked at Hopkins record and assumed he was just young and green?
I've seen plenty of young Taylor prior to facing Hopkins, and he rarely looked that impressive. And Taylor around the time he faced Hopkins was easily better than the Taylor we've seen of late, with Steward as his trainer.Comment

That was, essentially a young, under-prepared Hopkins in his 5th pro fight.
I doubt Taylor beats that Hopkins. Sometimes you gotta ignore the opponent and what he offers, and concern yourself with what the fighter in question is offering.
To gavinz, who hates Hopkins. I don't think anyone is saying Jones doesn't deserve credit for the win. He was just closer to his complete prime and still had trouble with a guy who hadn't come close to COMPLETELY peaking yet. It's not to take away from Jones, it's to just give both fighters credit for a close fight.Comment

Funny how guys like Hopkins and Mayweather were considered power punchers when they first entered the pro ranksComment

He didn't have any I don't think. He started boxing when he got out of jail.
And to be honest, I don't like the early style of hopkins to be honest. He was just so sloppy. The hopkins who fought Echols and Trinidad in that range when he was both agressive and a ring genius is my favorite type.
Taylor would beat that Hopkins because Hopkins didn't have the experience back then.Comment

Based on what I've seen of Taylor, he never showed a skill level like that. Hopkins showed perfect fundamentals, crisp, compact combos, good defense with bobbing and weaving skills, and great finishing skills.
Regardless of his opponent, you can Hopkins skills by simply watching him, not his opponent. Taylor never showed me any of that even when facing similar low level comp.
He is a lot more experienced in the pro ring yes, but there are other kinds of experience, such as prison boxing for years. And experience is not always that big a deal when you are outclassed on talent.Comment

You think the Hopkins in the vid posted was sloppy? That was the epitome of economical and technical. What were you watching? He didn't have any I don't think. He started boxing when he got out of jail.
