If he loses, no big deal, he just lost to the P4P best fighter at the time, similar to Hatton's loss to Mayweather, not that big of a deal.

I doubt fighters were saying, "My career is over, I just lost to a man that calls himself Sugar Ray Robinson"

Fighters lose, it's part of the game.
yeah, I think Frank Warren has seen the light too, I know the names on Amir Khan's resume at this point don't mean much to Americans but for a Warren fighter he is moving along at the speed of light.

The vibe you get of Joe when you read the book is that he doesn't actually love boxing THAT much, lol, it's just what he is brilliant at. Enzo Calzaghe has to drag his arse into that ring. Once he is in there he loves it. Joe says he doesn't miss boxing when he is out of the gym. Joe got well paid by Warren really, and until recently Joe was not THAT much of a draw, 6 years ago he was pulling in about 6,000 to watch his fights. Warren should have matched him more aggressively but after reading Joe's book I kind of think alot of it is his fault.

dont get me wrong. It's not like he ducked anyone, I think Glen Johnson is the only fighter who can claim that (but lets face it how good is Glen Johnson?), byt he could have done more to make big fights happen. He could have went over to America like you said years ago when he wasn't exactly a draw here either.

It seems like Hopkins is the one getting the short end of the stick considering how hard it is to negotiate with him. He has April as the date, Las Vegas as the venue, and a career high purse. It IS in America but I was hoping in NYC because I would gladly buy a ticket to watch this bout.

Why does everyone always bring up Roy Jones?? Leave this old version of Roy alone. Roy had his first real loss at 35 freaking years of age after he lost his super human reflexes and slowed down a bit from making history by winning a piece of the heavyweight crown.

You people need to get these following 2 facts into your heads once and for all.

1-Prime Roy Jones had no problems beating Hopkins and a prime Roy would have CLOWNED the sloppy Joe Calzaghe who is a great fighter in his own right, but the lighting speed, power and unorthodox ability of Roy Jones would have made him look like a "Euro Bum".

2-Roy Jones is one of the ultimate fistic machines of all time and LB 4 LB either beats or gives a great fight to any fighter in the history of the sport past, present and future.

Motivation. Like you said, if Joe isn't thinking about it when he is not inside the ring, then there is little motivation to make things happen. That's where the promoter comes in. Frank says, "Joe, I signed you to fight in America, get ready." Joe has no choice and will do it since like you said, Enzo will push him to.

His Dad should have went Old School with him. Packed his bags, shipped him off to America.

I was actually thinking the same for Tszyu, he should have been shipped to the States, not Australia...no offense Aussies.

Popkins will cover up like a 5th grader all night long.
Joe will overwhelm him. After round 4, Popkins will start tasting leather like never before.
