After Gareth Williams, attorney for Ricky Hatton (43-1, 31KOs), told Daily Mail that UK rival Junior Witter (36-1, 21KOs) will never get a crack at Hatton as long as he continues to trash him in the media (Click Here To Read) , Witter took the time to respond while speaking to The Telegraph. Quit yer cryin' Junior, you now you've ****ed it up by insulting Hatton all these years. Now that you've made your bed, you'll have to sleep in it (alone). -
Just as well for us fight fans that Benn,Eubank,Watson,Bruno,Lewis,
Calzaghe,Reid,Collins,Hamed,Robinson etc etc didn't have the same pathetic attitude that Hatton has. They all bad mouthed each other but never once did one of them say "i'll never fight him because he had the audacity to disrespect me".
Witter is WBC Champ. He has one defeat in his long career,at short notice to a man who most thought was an emerging superstar at that time when Witter was a virtual novice. He has beaten many men who were either ranked in and around the top 10 at 140 when he faced them or are now top 10 ranked (Bergman,Kotelnik,Corley,Harris & N'Dou). He is the number 1 ranked Ring Challenger yet Hatton won't face him because he dared speak his mind and say that he didn't think Hatton was all that good, thought he was avoiding him and said he thought he could knock him out.Terrible eh? Unusual isn't it for a crosstown rival to say that about another fighter from the same neck of the woods? Antonio Tarver bad mouthed his Floridian rival Roy Jones a hell of a lot more than Witter has Hatton but Jones never ducked Tarver (although he probably wisehes he did but at least he had the guts to face him).
Hatton is just making excuses. He fought Mayweather even though Floyd has said far worse things about him and disrespected him more than Witter ever did, saying things like he wouldn't even be good enough as a sparring partner for him.
The truth is plain and simple - Hatton is idolised in Britain and especially the North West. Were he to lose to a fellow north west fighter his credibilty would be severely damaged amongst his own.If he were 100% confident of beating Witter he'd fight him.But he isn't.He knows Witter is a cagey, awkward, hard hitting southpaw/switch hitter who would be a potential nightmare for him.
Like i say - thank god the likes of Benn & Lewis.Never one to duck a challenge unlike a certain Mr.Hatton from Manchester whose excuses for not facing the next best Light Welter in the world are now becoming laughable.Comment

Junior Witter needs Ricky Hatton, not the other way around. Hatton has a choice, he can top the bill in the states and receive the paydays he deserves, or he can take a step back and fight a relative nobody in comparison. And people are suprised at his decision?Comment

Fact of the matter ~ Witter was a high risk opponent with very little gain....hence the Mayweather bout... Hatton has openly expresssed his intensions (possible retirement after he reaches 30). Perhaps the bout with Witter can further cushion his pockets.Comment
