Has anyone followed Juan Diaz's whole career?

Very true ferocity.
He is not at an ATG level hwen it comes to skill. Difference between Juan and a guy like Chavez is pretty big.
But he has an americanized style while still mexican. I think he is a very, very good figher.
If he had a decent division he would be a star.
Too bad he doesn't have footspeed also.Comment

Pressure definately doesn't seem to fit. He almost fights like a slugger, which is insane, because he has so little power. He does literally stand flat-footed and just throws as many punches as he wants to.Comment

He pretty much fought the same way but he was still a just a kid who was very raw at the time. Definatly not the finished product and it was his 1st real step up in competion. Thats how it works. They fight the scrubs and then they step up with a vet with alot of losses. A guy who is much better then the scrubs but just good enough to make the kid work hard and then lose. Sometimes it doesnt work out that way and thats why you see alot of stars who have losses very early in there careers.
The fight stands out to me and the other guys on here because I dont ever remember seeing anyone cry like that before. It was kind of strange and made you want to say "Get this ****in baby ass kid out of the ring because he does not have the heart for the sport and obviously has no chance of being great". Fast forward to now and the kid is the toughest SOB in the sport and makes guys quit. You dont see turnarounds like that too often. He felt so bad though. He felt like he had let everyone down. Its like he never had anyone challange him in his whole career even in the amatures or sparring and he didnt know how to handle it.Comment

Ronnie Shields got him to throw less punchs. I remember watching him very early in his career on espn proably his 5 th fight. Diaz throws the kitchen sink in every round and dominating then in the corner you hear Ronnie Shields tell Juan Diaz to not throw so many punchs, to "settle down." Diaz is one hell of a punching machine, they say Henry Armstrong never stopped punching, in that regard we have Juan Diaz and imagine that Armstrong had power, must have been great to see Armstrong fight.
I'm ****ing shocked...
That's what they had to do to get him to win his fights, throw less punches?
Wow.Comment

He can throw down because he has skills. He's gotta beatiful jab and can throw every punch in the book with perfect technique.
Hatton is a three punch fighter. Juan Diaz is a 5 punch fighter. but Hatton has more dimensions to his game with his clinching, holding, headbutts, and all of the bullying he does.Comment

I like Diaz but I still dont think he is as great as others do. I think he would get beat by all the top guys a few years ago. I dont think he beats a Floyd, Chico, Stevie Johnston, Castillo, or a Casamayor. He's great but he's all offense. He's very flawed. I think Freitas wouldve beat him if he wasnt Freitas. Meaning, if he wasnt a part time *****. He gets hit way too easily and doesnt have power. I right now think that Guzman would beat him if he moved up. The problem is that there arent those real big dogs at that weight no more but a few years ago that weight wouldve been murder Diaz and he would have to go through hell in every fightLast edited by DLT; 12-16-2007, 02:35 AM.Comment

Which is why I have said he came at a time where the LW division is very weak.
But he is a skilled fighter who can throw every punch in the book.
That is pretty dangerous.
IF he had good footwork he would be a major force.
He doesn't jump on fighters quite like great pressure fighters do.Comment
