paul is calling everyone out, true, and he is the most avoided welter. but not because he is the most feared. it is because, right now, he is the smallest payday. example: who does cotto get paid more to fight, shane or paul?
who does mayweather get paid more to fight, hatton or paul?
paul is a big "risk" for any welter because he is a 6'2" southpaw who has a pretty good chin and throws lots of punches and the risk is not worth the small payday. but let's look deeper, who has he really fought? mitchell a C+, B- fighter. mathysse a C+,B- fighter. and margarito a B+ fighter.
I happened to be at the paul/margarito fight and thought neither fighter won, it was about as close a fight as they get. margarito landed the bigger shots and more often and paul threw more punches. but if i had to pick, i would have given the edge to margarito.
it seems to me that no one really knows how good paul is yet because he hasn't fought any A level fighter yet. and i personally don't think he is ready for any A level fighter yet. i think a good next step for him would be judah or quintana, which he wins. but i want to see how impressively. a better step would be clottey, which would be intersting to watch and a pick em fight.
i'll make a prediction; paul does not fight cotto or mayweather in 2008. not because he doesn't want to, but because goossen knows he doesn't have enough experience yet.
