147 is where the best money and competition is at. obviously money isnt an issue because its kind of hard to blow 30+ million playing darts and drinking beer. but a lot of guys, including floyd, fight beyond their natural weight for the bigger payday and increased competition. personally i just think hatton cant hack it. tell me a guy that walks around at 170 pounds cant fight at 147. gimme a break, he just knows he doesnt have the talent to fight slightly above his natural fighting weight. whats your opinion?

Yes, he does not have the talent to make up for his deficits at 147, which are as follows:

    Decent chin at best
    drastically reduced punch effectiveness
    5'6" height
    20" reach

Hatton needs to be able to bully his opponents, he cannot do that at 147 so going down to 140 is a good move.

You have to think about health first.

hes too small to fight a lot of the big ww's. Floud he could fight and possibly cotto and mosley but the rest are too big. Its not the weight thats the problem or the power imo its the height and reach, and no matter what he does in the gym, hes never getting longer arms or getting taller

he just doesn't have the body type, short with short arms. Alot of the Welters should be light middleweights also. Maragarito,Williams,Cintron,Mosley, even Collazo. Hatton's style is not suited to fighting guys that much bigger than him and giving up strength, punching power, reach and just about every other intangible you can think of. Nobody is saying Ricky Hatton is Roberto Duran my friend.

I totally agree, Hatton need to go back to 140 and kick the ass of Witter and Malignaggi, I think he can unify this division. Also in a few years, that would be cool to see Juan Diaz move up in weight to fight him.
Imagine that, Hatton vs. Diaz OMG

so with this kind of talk, does hatton even exist on a top 20 p4p list. he was absent espns new top 20 p4p. request link if u want. seems like he has too many limitations. basically if he is only successful because he is able to bully people he is not an elite fighter, jmo

nevermind i guess he is number 14 on their rankings. if he doesnt fight at 147 i dont think he deserves that. http://insider.espn.go.com/sports/bo...2=stateChanged

If so then Floyd fighting 140 lber Hatton was a cop out.

Just because he gets fat between fights doesn't mean anything. Have you seen his face between fights? There's a couple pounds of fat right there.

Hatton will come back to 147 if Floyd fights Williams or Cotto, how's that?
