when i think about the small 24/7 clips on youtube of hatton making fun of the way mayweather hits the pads and how hatton thought mayweather couldnt hurt him, i think about how foolish it looks now, i tried to explain to everyone that mayweather hits them like that for coordination and to maintain short accurate quickness, its not for show like some people were buying into.

Before the fight you had all kinds of people "I CAN SEE THE FIERCE LOOK IN HATTONS EYE, HES GONNA WIN" etc trying to convince themselves that Hatton would come in with a vengeance and that ended up being the problem.

Floyd and his trashtalk really did have an effect on how hatton fought to some degree. nobody fights with their emotions unless there is something innate going on to some degree causing them to want to come out the way hatton did. DLH tried to warn hatton that what mayweather says gets on your nerves.

Hatton went from saying he wasnt going to get into all of the bull**** trashtalk and bravado and other bull****, to doing it to some degree himself. Hatton wasnt really being his usual self after awhile, the throat slash gesture at last wednsdays press conference really showed me that something was definately different about his demeanor.

The fact that the magnitude of this fight was so huge, and the man he was in there with, and with the feeling that he wanted to not only make his own words reality, but make mayweather eat his probably had an effect, it had to have.

Hatton didnt do what i thought he was going to do, and he was dominated worse than i thought hed be and ill tell you why. Hatton smothered his own punches, he didint work well AT ALL on the inside and you can blame the ref if you want, but on the inside, it was mayweather going to he body with shortened uppercuts and hooks. Hatton never unloaded, he never gave himself the space to unload and he was so intent on imposing his will on mayweather, but mayweather wouldnt budge, as uncomfortable as he was early on, mayweather never backed down and never folded, and i think hatton honestly expected that.

Hattons downfall to me, was when mayweather really turned it up to the body, and the fact that i dont think he thought mayweather needed such little space to get off his punches. While hatton comes in wide, it is relativly quick, but mayweather is even quicker and needs less space to do so. The more hatton got his body assaulted, the worse off he was, by the 6th/7th/8th round it was starting to have an effect.

As far as the ref goes, i really dont give a ****, hatton was NOT working on the inside, he was mauling and mugging, i would feel bad if hatton was being his normal self and working, picking shots, backing up, unloading, thats not what was happening, thats why i dont understand how Cortez stopped hatton from doing what he was supposed to be doing, PUNCHING.
I don't think so. If mayweather got into hattons head it didn't really showed as Hatton fought the same fight he has done lately, I didn't see anything special.

he pretty much admitted he fought with more emotion and it got the best of him.

I dont know if it was nerves or Floyd getting in his head. What ever it was he fought the wrong fight. I thought he would be more cautious coming in, being active inside and getting out before Floyd ould tag him.

Instead he underestimated Floyd's physical strength. He thought he could out muscle him inside by just mauling him, and when Floyd didnt budge he got even more reckless just walking into jabs and straight rights.

And like Addison pointed out. In the press conference Floyd clutched Hatton and basically man handled him. That was kind of foreshadowing what was to come because Floyd is stronger than Hatton, and he showed it.

This is ridiculous. It's not about press conferences, it's about boxing technique.

Anyone who thinks this doesn't understand what it is to be a badass, to be unintimidatable.

The bottom line is it would had to have been an outstanding performance for Hatton to beat Mayweather, and that's despite the usually top notch Joe Cortez having a bad night. There is no doubt in my mind that the occasion got to Hatton a little bit, but he didn't do himself any favours with his Gung-Ho approach... That sort of approach was never going to work on Mayweather. I was in favour of the consistent pressure that Hatton was talking about applying prior to the fight, but it just wasn't controlled. He was attacking in straight lines, not using any angles, and not going to the body as often as he should have done... Basically, he was head hunting and looking to knock Mayweather out, especially after the cut. Although i rate Hatton a very good fighter, he does have flaws that Mayweather exposed further (although they have been evident throughout his career, even in his best performance against Tszyu), and i really believe that questions have to be asked of his trainer Billy Graham. My reason being that Hatton has natural talent that he hasn't developed. Again (as in another of my posts) that may sound daft due to the fact that Hatton was unbeaten prior to fighting Mayweather, but i honestly believe that Graham is lacking something tactically & technically.
