Who is the best at welter then? If not the best boxer on the planet. According to ring magazine floyd is the best welter.

I share the same viewpoint that Bob Arum has. Floyd will fight no one he thinks has shot of beating him. I'll give you some names: Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, even Margarito. But if thats how he wants to be remembered so be it.

and to be the best you have to beat the best something he did to baldomir.

who in your opinion is the best welter?

Why argue with such irrational nit pickers who don't know the first thing about boxing? Why buy into the games of an arm chair critic with a hate agenda? As long as the impartial analysis of the professional observers understand what is so plainly obvious, that's all that matters since the mass volume will see them as the authority. Not whiny babies on boxingscene who can't even seem to make much sense.

Boxing Scene Pound for Pound Top Ten

We start at the top with…

            1) Floyd Mayweather (39-0, 25 KO)

            Age: 30

Current Title: World Welterweight/147 lb. Champion (2006-Present)

Career Titles: World Jr. Lightweight/130 lb. champion (1998-2001); World Lightweight/135 lb. champion (2002-04); additional alphabet titles at 140 and 154 lbs.

Last Five Opponents: Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah, Sharmba Mitchell

            Up Next: TBA

My Take: Consider that tie broken. The biggest knock on “Money” and the real source of debate between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao emerged because Floyd wasn’t fighting the best from 2003-2005 and because of the mis-timing of Judah-Mayweather as a pay-per-view show following Judah’s loss to Baldomir. With Hatton left on the floor, one has to look at the whole body of work in a new light. In the last two years and four fights, Floyd’s defeated the last two men (before him) to hold the real World championship at 147 lbs. in Zab Judah and Carlos Baldomir), the biggest draw in the game in a still tough Oscar and, to close 2007, the true Jr. Welterweight king in Ricky Hatton. Impressively, he beat Hatton on the inside, which no one predicted. From here the questions will be about Miguel Cotto, a potentially great fight, but let’s be honest…Miguel’s people didn’t even breathe Floyd’s name until seven years into Cotto’s career and seem to have booked away from him already on the 2008 schedule without even attempting to negotiate the fight. The onus is on Miguel Cotto to prove he can beat Floyd and not the other way around. The onus is on anyone to beat Floyd and not the other way around. The first fighter in history to win the lineal titles at 130 and 147 has, with the Hatton win, has defeated the reigning kings of four weight classes in his career and he’s not done yet. He might not quite be Ray Robinson level (yet), but Floyd is knocking on the door of the top twenty fighters that ever lived if he’s not already there.

We all saw what happened to Taylor when he finally fought a real world class "in his prime" middleweight. Mayweather is an awesome fighter BUT he is not the best welterweight today, he hasn't fought any!!! You got to win it in the ring. I guess after Mayweathers awesome win last night you could call him the best overweight Jr Welterweight since that's who he beat.

Did you really just compare Jermain Taylor to Floyd Mayweather? But anyway JT won 2 fights against Hopkins who it seems you dont consider a real middleweight & he fought Winky Wright to a draw to keep his title. He then took a little break & fought 2 game fighters in Ouma & Spinks. Then he quite possibly had the fight of the year with Pavlik. but you sound like the type of person whos always hating on fighters like Floyd & JT for things that dont have anything to do with boxing.

                  in my opinion they're 1floyd 1acotto and 1bwilliams

there's no way of telling who is better, you considered floyd the best cause he's p4p recognized as the best fighter, but he attained that title at a different weightclass.

Considering that he beat an inflated, faded Shramba, a old, inactive DLH, and a Hatton that almost lost his only other fight at welter I guess is somewhat impressive
