You cannot hold, you cannot hit while holding, and you cannot wrestle. Hatton was wrestling when he was on the inside. He wasn't throwing punches and his hands weren't free. When the hands were free and moving, Cortez wasn't interfering.

BTW, Hatton's point deduction was justified. He obviously tried to inflict damage to Mayweather when he was thru the ropes and his back was turned. EVERY pro boxer knows that you stop fighting when the other guy goes thru the ropes.

But.. It was a brilliant move on Floyd's part.. He Initated the Holds..Not Hatton.. He kept using his elbow.. Floyd was the Dirty Fighter.. But somehow Cortez was Convinced it was Hatton.. And it worked... But then everything with Floyd is smoke and Mirrors..
I have awesome new respect for Floyd.. Not as a Boxer.. But as a confidence man.. He is GOOD... very very good..

Let's not go nuts, Hatton was having some success early because he was mixing it up, using head movement and a jab to get inside, and after the point deduction (which was bogus in my opinion, Mayweather was in trouble and turned his back to avoid punishment) he abandoned it and started just bullrushing. And he got caught.

For me the worst indictment of the officiating was that the judging was so off base. I think it was 90-80, 90-80, 89-81 with one judge giving Hatton one round at the point of the knockout.

Cortez was far more an influence on the fight than he should have been, there's no question. But suggesting that the fight should be called a no contest as a result isn't the right way of things.

If I were in the habit of making excuses I could say "Floyd would never get away with using his elbows and holding like that in the UK".

A good ref makes himself incon****uous. Cortez not only made himself the center of attention, insinuating himself into ALL the action, but he was blatantly and in your face biased and obviously there to trash Hatton and wreck his fight strategy, and, as I said, at one point even getting so carried away with pleasing his paymasters, that he deducted a point from Hatton.

Hatton's strategy was to fight his way inside and sustain some punishment in the process, but once inside that's where he was strongest. But then the so-called ref would immediately leap in squaling. A good ref tells the fighters, "Fight your way out of the clinches!" He doesn't go diving in flapping his arms and squawking like one of Don Kings chickens.

If the ref "fixed" the fight, how do you explain Hatton getting blasted in the 10th round?

The obvious answer would be that the ref fixed it... I'm not saying the referee was on the payroll, that's not a realistic accusation, but he did seem very conscious about stopping Hatton from fighting up close early on and this affected both guys as the fight wore on, you'd have to be very naive not to think so. Had Hatton been able to fight his fight in the first four rounds then Floyd would have taken more punishment and Hatton would have less reason to rush in rather than box in. The knockout didn't happen in a vacuum, it happened because of events earlier in the fight.

It was a decisive victory for Floyd and I don't think I've made any secret that I think Floyd is the better fighter, and was probably better on the night. But suggesting that the refereeing wasn't a factor is unrealistic.

I was wrong, it was 89-81, 89-81, 88-82, so only one judge gave Hatton more than one rounds. I gave Hatton four rounds (but there was the point deduction as well in the sixth). I don't think anyone on here has given Ricky less than two rounds.

Havent seen the entire fight yet,but the biggest factor seemed to be hatton not being able to walk through mayweather's shots, mayweather hurting him several times, and mayweather knocking him the **** out into into the ringpost, hatton shouldnt have been allowed to contine after that, he could have got stopped in rd 8 too, he just took some heavy, heavy shots. that looked to be the factor, or should i not judge yet?

I know what you are saying, but imo, Hatton cannot beat floyd mayweather, at any weight, ever.

PBF is a great boxer, but he dont take many risks. He gets the big ring, gets to fight in his own country. I think when people take PBF on they get too emotionally involved. Hatton was too gung ho. PBF dont take risks in fights. He wouldnt mind the fight being boring. So Hatton has to iniate it. If Hatton stood still and didnt move, PBF would be ten feet away
