That's what sells. It's the 17-23 age that most of the new rappers are trying to attract. They want to put out that Car music that the young cats can bump to in their brand new system.I understand the points you and Dios both are making and it brings up a legitimate debate. I'm definitely not the one to point the finger at rap music as it's a double standard to do so but I am critical of those artists who promote violence simply because it's what sells. These conglomerate labels give the ultimatum that either you rap this way or we won't put out your record, so it's two-fold as well.
They don't wanna listen to that soft bubble gum rap.Comment

Why are you acting ignorant (hence, I don't think you are). That's a scapegoat. Of course most mainstream rap isn't an art because it isn't controlled by ARTISTS. The essence of hip hop comes from mainly Jamaican dance music and disco where inner city artists and DJs threw parties by chanting over looped samples. It evolved into a culture that included Graffiti writing, break dancing, emceeing, and the other elements. The earliest hip hop artists were poets. I suggest you dig up some KRS One and Rakim, or listen to vintage Nas, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and the related. Please don't be ignorant and cast a blanket over an entire sub-culture. It is very diverse with genres within the genre and nit picking mainstream radio does no good to prove your point.Rap (mainstream) is the saddest form of music/creative art to come out of America since...well...ever!
America has produced some of the most magical and talented artists in every field and this ... urgh ... I don't know what to say. The lyrics are just awful and sound like they were written by a try-hard thirteen year old wannabe homie.
Man, I wish jazz was still the main art form in mainstream America. Not all this pimpin' shizzle fizzle hoe *****z ****e. It's embarrassing. Even more so when done by a rich fighter living it up with millions talking about his 'block' and 'hustlin' with my *****z'.
I've often wondered if most of the top guys in mainstream rap are serious. I mean, they can't be...can they? Are they that deluded to think what they say and act like is actually hip?
Bring back Miles, Parker and Coltrane.Last edited by sonofisis; 12-06-2007, 10:07 PM.Comment

I'm not concerned with where they rank all time, I only know that Zab was THE top welter weight and Baldy beat him. Floyd proceeded to beat both of them. Where do you rank someone like a Margarito, all time?Comment
