Chavez was the LEGITIMATE champ in 3 weight classes....weight classes in which he rates amongst the best ever (though at lightweight, his reign was brief)
Too much emphasis is put, positively & negatively, on his overall record....when it's his record in title fights that amazes.
He is the greatest Mexican fighter of all time.
Few in history went to the body like he did, nor did many put their shots together like he did.
His fight with fellow lb4lber Meldrick Taylor, was the greatest fight of the 90's, as well as one of the finest fought "super fights" in the history of boxing.
He was at or the top of the lb4lb lists for almost a decade.

Chavez defines the word "Legend", IMO.

I'll end this quick! theirs alot of threads like this one, but if you guys do your homework and look in to it Chavez was pound 4 pound #1 for a few years and he was top 10 P4p for a long time! SO that should end this question because not just anybody can make it to the top 10 P4p and stay their for as long as he did!

I'm not even going to read ahead to see who responded to the above statement. Sure Taylor was leading comfortably on points, but the 12th round knock down in no way came as the result of a lucky punch. Chavez was slower throughout the fight (who wouldn't have been against Taylor?), but JCC landed plenty of hard shots on Meldrick before he finally damaged him enough to drop him. Chavez never stopped trying to win, and because of his pressure Meldrick was spent by the end of the fight. I find it hard to believe that anyone failed to attribute the knockdown to anything but the accumulation of hard shots Meldrick absorbed all night long.

With regard to whether Chavez was an all-time great or not...I won't bother responding to that silliness.

I see now that there has already been some back and forth on Duran_Is_God's post. Just had to jump in and respond before reading the rest of the thread.

Of course Chavez was a great fighter.

Anyone who would question that doesn't know much about boxing.
