The Hate Ends Here: Chavez Jr. Stops Sanchez in Six

By Jake Donovan - Like it or not, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. can fight.

Any questions you could have of young Chavez were emphatically answered tonight, courtesy of his body shot knockout of Ray Sanchez in the 6 th round of a fever-pitched battle at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The biggest knock on the 21-year young Chavez was the slow road toward contender status, his handlers accused of milking his famous family name while padding his record against a series of no-hopers. Whatever validity previously came with that claim evaporated the moment Ray Sanchez agreed to invite Julio to his hometown for their crossroads fight.

Any questions of his chin, heart and overall skill level were answered throughout the bout, one that will easily land in the honorable mention section come time to determine 2007's Fight of the Year. Sanchez deserves credit for forcing Chavez to prove his mettle, taking the fight to the son of Mexico's greatest legend right from the opening bell.

Despite fighting in his own hometown, Sanchez found himself short on fan support, with many of the 6,077 pulling for the young lion of Culiacan. Sanchez managed to convert some disbelievers early, testing Chavez' fighting heart while working behind his jab from the southpaw stance. The crowd still went crazy anytime Chavez landed, with his right hand his most effective weapon in the opening round. Sanchez' success came in his jab and body work. [details]

who says it stops hahaha .
i just think he needs a little bit more stamina so he can throw more volume of punches, cause he barely throw 20 punches per round and when he knock the guy out he looked a little bit tired, but its all good cause he threw all of them hard and all of them hurt sanchez when landed... has to work more if he wants to step up for big fights, a dela hoya chavez jr. fight would be sick for the mexican fans even if dela hoya kicks his ass.. maybe some day

i think he did good, yea there were some flaws but he always works them out later in training. i still don't think he's ready for a world title. but someday he will be, arum needs to turn it up, and a baldomer fight would be great.

and this is someone who improved to 35-0-1 today, he's not ready for a title shot? not you saying YOU said this but in general, a question for all of you guys, does that **** sound right to y'all? I'm feeling fooled yo they want to say that he's only facing cans because he didn't have an ametuer career but Bernard Hopkins did the same **** and by his 36th fight he was undisputed Middleweight champion of the world, now many of you guys may say "well not everybody is Bernard Hopkins", granted, but still yo Head-Hop isn't the only guy to do that and be successful, we are in an era of Boxing where you either put up or you shut up, why is it that at 36 fights Alfonso Gomez would be a STEP UP for Chavez Jr? Gomez who doesn't even have 20 wins yet has more than 1 notable name, he should be a tune up at this point, **** is whack yo I ain't saying Chavez Jr ain't got the tools, c'mon man that kid tall as a mother****er but whats the hold up? 100

The hold up was he had no amateur career, i dont know why thats so hard for people to see. Gomez may have less pro fights but i guarantee you he's had more official fights dating back to the amateurs. I wanna see Chavez Jr, in there with Berto, i think that fight would look very similar to tonights and a good name on his resume.

Chavez jr didn't have hardly any amatuer career did he? Most of your really good fighters have at least 150 amatuer fights. And c'mon, he's only 21, barely got his pubes yet. Look at Hatton, didn't really fight anyone till his 39th fight, and he was like 27.

no ametuer career ain't a good enough reason dogz, I pointed out many times there have been other successful guys whom have had no ametuer experience and still did great in the pro's, if thats the case they should have brought him up better then, they should have given him an ametuer career instead of throwing him in there like that if they were just going to wait until he was damn near 40-0 to fight at least a washed up name, going by that ametuer experience logic if they trying to make up for no ametuer experience then they might be fighting 60 fights without a step up because MANY ametuers have that and more, he would have to continue fighting bums, that **** really turns me away from dude yo, even a washed up dude who at least been there and done that is better than them cans he been facing, **** it offer Gatti something he can't refuse or whoop on Sharmba Mitchell for a few rounds but do something homie don't just sit there and KO chumps and expect *****z to like it.. if the ametuer alibi was going to hold him back so much he should have never turned pro so soon, he's mad young and he could have had him a good ametuer back round, I like the kid because he's the follow threw of a living legend but c'mon man wtf. 100

Why waste 100 fights fighting amatuer (min needed to really have a succesful pro career) when he can cash in on his dad's name and make some coin fighting pro?
