LOL!!! Do you realize that Pernell was the the best fighter in the world at that point? The BEST. I don't know what more you could say on that note. I mean, even you have to admit that it would have been just a tiny bit criticized if Oscar had chosen to fight Kostya Tzsyu instead of Pernell Whittaker.

This is such a ridiculous argument, and I'm honestly thinking that you have not followed boxing long, because you obviously don't know what the climate of the sport was like at the time these fights happened. Ask anyone else if the thought Pernell was shot at the time.

Oscar was over the hill when he fought Floyd....and yes he still almost beat Floyd. I think that's a valid observation.

All you have to do is look at clips of young Oscar to see the difference. A young Oscar would have whipped Floyd, IMO.

I think Pernell was over the hill when he fought Oscar...not shot. Difference. Pernell was 33 years old when he fought Oscar and he only fought three more times after that fight.

And, no I don't think Oscar would have been criticised at all for fighting Tszyu, who was kicking in the door at that time. It was the fight to make.
****, Oscar could have fought Tszyu and then gone up for Whittaker. But, instead he left the division entirely.

edit: Prime Pernell would have beaten Oscar. Not a ridiculous argument at all.

I know, look at Oscar in the first Mosley fight, HUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference then and now.

I reckon De La hoya can beat Hatton, how's that?

Hatton's victory over Tszyu was certainly as great a single performance as any single fight that Floyd has ever had.
              Not.

Oscar was just as active as Tszyu. And MUCH healthier. Oscar will fight again, and will look solid. Will Tszyu?

And Oscar was bigger, stronger, faster, better chinned, and more accomplished than Tszyu.
